Update failed - Another installer is currently running

Question

I know this has been asked before and seems a very common problem, but none of the solutions I have tried works.

I'm on Windows 10 using desktop version of Lightroom 6.0 and trying to update to 6.14. The installation gets to about 99% and then gives me the message:

"Update Failed. Updates could not be applied. Another installer is currently running, which must be closed before installing this update. Please close other installers."

I have killed off in Task Manger the Windows installer, which otherwise runs constantly. There are no other installers running. I have also tried killing off other Adobe processes.

Other updates for other applications work fine - this problem seems to be Adobe Lightroom specific.

Is there a definitive answer anywhere from Adobe?

Yes, I tried that, including the restart.

l have now managed to run the update successfully. I downloaded the package manually, rather than running it from the update option within the application, and ran that immediately after a restart. (see: Download Photoshop Lightroom )
