Question

Uploading from brand new external SSD is impossible, but Lightroom can read what has been uploaded.

I am puzzled. I bought an SSD to help speed up the read speed for cataloging photos and videos I take on my phone that turn into reels. I am able to sift through and view the photos from that SSD that have already been uploaded. When I select this SSD in the uploading window, I just get the spinning wheel for an enternity and the light on the SSD does not flicker to indicate they are talking. It is like a complete disconnect with the upload function only. I am not sure what I can do about this besides a workaround with moving files so that they upload on a current HDD, and then I'll update the new file location to the SSD.

Both the PC and Lightroom are up to date. Hardware details and the spinning wheel are in photos attached. I purchased the Samsung T7 Shield 4TB portable SSD (1050mb/s).

If anyone has any answers, I would be very grateful.

When you talk about "upload", do you mean import?

If so, instead of showing us a tiny part (the left part) of the import dialog box, show us the ENTIRE import dialog box. Please use the "Insert Photos" icon to include the screen capture(s) in your reply. Do not continue to attach files.

Apologies. Here is the full screenshot of what happens. I will click on the folder to find new files to "import" and it will show "finding files" forever and not display any photos that are already imported. I also have a brand new 2tb external SSD that does the same thing. This SSD is the same make and model as the one I originally posted about, just a smaller size. So someting between Lightroom and this SSD does not talk.

Thank you! So I think this is the fix: click on Copy (yes I know you want to ADD but click on Copy anyway), then make sure the Destination panel* is expanded and points to a folder that actually exists, then click back on ADD.

* — if the Destination Panel doesn't appear, right click on "File Handling" and then select Destination from the dropdown menu.

Hi Bill! The photo attached that ends in 818 shows what I am talking about. If I select the F drive, I get a spinning cursor and the bottom remains the same - stating that 0 files fond. I'm just trying to upload files from a brand new external SSD without any luck.

I too should add that I'm doing what I think you want to do with Windows 11 and an Android phone.

I'm confused by what you mean by "uploading window". Are you connecting your phone to your computer? Can you describe your steps in the Import process?

Hi Bill! I accidentally replied to the whole convo and not you. I meant the import window. I have two brand new SSDs that are connected by USB that Lightroom cannot import from, meaning I will click on that drive to search for the files that have not been imported yet, and nothing loads. Not even the files that have already been imported. But, when going through the library, I can see the files already imported and can edit them no problem. The import funcion is just not working with these two. This is the first time I have used a SSD versus a HDD for external editing. I am attaching the same screenshot as I did for a nother answer here. All I get is the spinning wheel and finding files at the bottom left, without anything loading. The busy light on my SSD will remain off.

@ulvogravn , your screen capture shows you have selected a folder called PHONE NARRATIVE and LrC does not recognize any image files in that folder to import. Try clicking on triangle to the left and see if there are any subfolders that may contain images.

Inaddition in the right side of the import dialog you have selected "Do not import selected duplicate images". If you already imported the images that will create problems trying to reimport from a different location.

Provide additional information.
