Using LR in MAC (MacBook) and WIN (PC/NAS) environments

Howdy,

Not sure this is a bug or a PEBKAC issue, but it could be an improvement suggestion.

PC:  WIn 11  -  McaBook: Ventura 13.5.2  -  LR V.13

I thought I had done this before but now I seem to hit a road block I can't reslove.  I have seen Mr. Kelby  using a SSD to hold his Catalogues and thought great idea.  When home I use the NAS to store all info, except the Cat's which I leave on the SSD(formated to exFAT) figuring will avoid copying back and forth.  I thought it worked last time.  This time when I get home the PC won't read the SSD folder saying its corrupted.  It opens fine on the MacBook.  Even copying the Cat file to the NAS LR from the PC will not open it, saying it has no rights to save to a network drive???  eh???  Since when?

 

I would have thought there would be an easy way to keep it all together.  Yes I know I will have to "find" the contents once I move them to the NAS from the SSD.  

 

Is there a better way to make LR portable to go between  devices in mixed environment?  I use classic not the cloud versions (not a big fan of cloud software).  I travel for vacations and WPPI (well maybe PSW again is they ever go back to live not virtual).  Using this method seemed to keep all the editing and adjustments rather can copying to the NAS and opening a new instance in the PC catalogue and losing those settings.  Feel free to laugh and point and the village idiot.  But I must be missing something.

    So, you are not trying to use the catalog on a NAS, you are just trying to copy it to the NAS, then copy that to a hard drive connected to your PC. Correct?

     

    But the NAS is giving you a problem.

     

    Have you brought up your NAS Management Console, and checked for rights, etc?

      The rights are fine.  Have no issues with any other files, just this one.

        NAS LR from the PC

        hmm, I overlooked that part. Trying to copy using the PC from the external to the NAS fails. Ok, but what abot attempting to copy using the MAC from the external to the NAS?

          A Lightroom catalog cannot reside on a network drive. So to use the catalog across devices, it must be shared on a local drive and the images must be accessible by both computers.

          You might just use a new catalog while traveling and merge it into the master catalog later.

            Lumigraphics,

            I may have written it poorly.  The Cat was on an external SSD not the NAS.  The RAW images are on the NAS.  I have used this befroe with no issue.  Both the MacBook and the PC were able to see the CAT when the SSD was plugged into that device.  I move the SSD to the device I want to use.  The idea was the SSD held the Cat file and it got plugged into whichever  PC/Mac I was using.

            This only cropped up with the V.13 update that I can tell. 

             

            I doi not understand why  Adobe does not allow network use (aside from multiple connections, in My case I only use on one computer at a time).  All My data is on My NAS, I don't care about My PC/MB programss.  All reloadable.  I want the data safeguarded from issues.  Having multiple SSD's for BU of the Cat's can be done but a waste or resources, plus the BU time.

             

            Also how would I merge when the PC can't read the catalogue from the MacBook?
