Using Samsung T7 external SSD with LrC

  Additional info.  I have tried using a 6ft. cable that is USB 3.2.  Actually used it first on

just one drive and did an AV scan of the drive.  Worked and seemed 'fast'.  I then also

connected up the second T7 and copied the first one to the second one.  That also

worked and was 'acceptably fast' ... up to 98% complete ... and then 'horribly slow'

for the last 2%.  I don't know what was going on - it literally just slowed way down.

It did complete and the contents of the two drives -seem- identical (number of bytes

and number of files and number of folders all same).

  That last 2% had a lot of what looked like "windows file names" ... perhaps it was

copying the recycle bin or some such nonsense and queuing up on every file ... ???

I don't really know.

  I have 'inspected' the contents of the copied drive (2nd T7) and it all looks fine

to me - image files will open, searches by truncated file name, etc. all work.  There

really is no way to really "KNOW" without doing some kind of total file comparison.

  As to having the T7 be the drive for LrC - I think I've verified that it works just

fine with the longer cable.  LrC opens, shows all the stuff in its catalog (including

the non-destructive updates) and I can not tell the difference between the

shorter cable (supplied by Samsung with the T7) and the longer one (after

market purchase of just cables).

  I have both the catalog -and- the image files on the pSSD ... this allows me

to switch computers between my regular computer and my travel laptop

and everything is all with me all the time.  The second pSSD (T7) is only

for backups and will only be done here at home (I don't need to do

backups while I'm travelling).  What I intend to do while travelling is to

make second copies of the images I'm taking while travelling on the

HD of the travel laptop ... so I will have two copies of those.

  I'm not completely done testing these longer cables ...yet.  I intend to

do some more "are the two pSSDs the same" stuff in the next few

days.
