Isn't it about time this thread was closed, and a new one opened for LR7?

Bit hard to know what to ask for in Lightroom 7 when 6 is not out yet....

But quite happy to lock this...

I love Lightroom 5 to pieces and would never consider replacing it with Photoshop. However, I do find myself yurning for more of the less involved Photoshop features which have everything to do with photos. I'm talking mainly about HDR and Panorama (Photomontage) tools. I feel these features are the most common features of Photoshop which photographers will want to use/have access to and I don't see any reason why these shouldn't be a part of Lightroom. I am not willing to take out a CC subscription or buy Photoshop purely for use of these two features (I also don't believe these features being included with Lightroom would take away any sales from Photoshop). It would be great if I could import my photos to Lightroom, as I always do, and then be able to quickly and easily create a photomontage or HDR image from my imported photographs right inside of Lightroom.

In short, HDR and Photomontage should be features of Lightroom.

Ps. Some sort of graphical optomisation or other would be great too. I get far more lag than I'm comfortable with on my 15" Retina MacBook Pro where I really shouldn't be experiencing lag at all. There are also odd graphical glitches I've noticed too with photos not rendering right and ending up as a mess of pixels and also sliders not having an effect when moved in small increments (I got all the way to the extreme end of one slider by moving it very small amounts at a time, with no effect on the photo - this can't be right).

The best new feature for me in LR6 would be some kind of automatic keyboard shortcut lock. So for example when working in the metadata panel adding captions, you can’t accidentally trigger other functions.

    I agree.

It's the single key commands which drive me crazy. With some frequency I will accidentally change the rating and label of an image I didn't mean to change. Often it'll happen like this: while adjusting an image in a 5-star smart collection, I'll click the White Balance temperature field and type, say, 6055, only to then realize that the temperature field never really activated and I have just applied the Yellow label to an image, and changed its rating to zero stars, causing it to vanish from the smart collection. Really annoying.

I want an easy, native way to change and/or disable keyboard commands, particularly the ones which are a single key. There used to be a plug-in (or something) which let you mess with this stuff, and I did try it, but there were a few things I could never change, so I gave up on it.

No question about my most desired feature.... 100% GPU Acceleration. Zero/Minimal image processing on the CPU.

    Offloading processing to GPU:

    * May not happen anytime soon.

    * May not help as much as you hope even if it does happen.

Thus, It might be worthwhile to specify which aspects of Lr performance are the most bothersome to you..

As someone who often uses GPU accelerated software for image processing, I think I am reasonably well versed in what GPU acceleration can and cannot do.

In Lightroom we work with large raw images... usually above 20mp. The interactivity of these images has been improved recently with the 100% jpg proxy images. This is great for the Library view. However, in Develop view, the interactivity is slow. By having the GPU take care of the image processing, we should be able to see the image change and adjust when moving the sliders around without any noticeable delay or lag. It should be a 100% smooth interactive experience.

    Hello,

I'd really like to see some added features to the slideshow; at the bare minimum add a Ken Burns effect and best case add some additional transition features. Its an area where most people are going somewhere else to make slide shows; I'd love to do it all in LR.

Also, I'd like to ability to copy and paste a radial filter; so that I have 2 radial filters with the same exact size. For instance, sometimes I want to lighten a face, but cool shadows else where; if I could easily copy and paste a radial filter, than I can stack them on top of eachother and have one inverted to lighten and the other cooling shadows.

And if I'm getting picky; the ability to import photos to different desitnations, apply different key words etc from the same import screen. I might do a newborn shoot that also has other family memebers in it. So being able to import all and have separate key words would be helpful. Or if I had a couple different shoots on one card, it would be convenient.

    Thanks for asking!

Definitely camera shake reduction and smart sharpening from photoshop CC.

    Hello,

I use LR since 4.x, now with the latest 5.3 version. But I am also working with onOne Perfect Photo Suite. And while I can understand LR does not have true layers, I would definitely welcome improvement in the presets area, as I can find recent presets being almost useless:

    1) Allow us to set the opacity/strength for the development preset. It can be done, as there is an external plugin, which does so.

    2) I want to go even further - recently, development presets can be used only upon the whole image. I would welcome one special Brush, which would allow you to paint-in/out the desired preset in certain areas. This feature would take the LR to the different level. You simply can't compare here to the capabilities of OnOne PPS.

    3) Make presets interfaces more consistent! When you compare development presets, brush presets and crop presets, those use different interface and also different underlying logic. E.g. crop presets are not editable, you can add only 3 of them IIRC, and those are stored in a database of catalog, not an editable external file. There is definitely room for an improvement ...

As for me, I use only Library and Develop modules, just recently started to use Print module. But - OnOne PPS added the Browse module and they seem to be working on rating/flagging stuff. Once delivered, there is one less reason to use LR, as development capabilities in regards to weak presets, can't simply stand a comparison ...

    Cheers,

    Petr

I was helping someone a while back set Photoshop interface to the Russian language, but to my surprise I do not see Russian as an option in LR's preferences.

So LR needs to expand from the 12 packs already in there.

Consider making that a feature request direct to Adobe (it might be lost here in the user-to-user forum):

    Thanks for that.

I forget sometimes in these U2U forums that while staff may drop in, the feedback page is the proper venue.

So that's done aand hopefully LR will have all 27 language packs CC offers, instead of the default 12.

I'd like to see either or both: a much easier way to move libraries between computers, as well as access a library located on a server.

    1. Gotta have Network intelligence and be able to store images on a Network or External Drive.  Proxy thumnail images should be used for editting with final changes on 'real' image.  This of course should be a User choice.
    2. Use 64 bit operating systems and GPU acceleration.
    3. Font size in panels should be resizable - thought everyone in the world had done this to enable Users?
    4. Should integrate smoothly and correctly (very buggy at the moment) with Photoshop (all versions) not just CC
    5. Should be independant of Creative Cloud (I KNOW this will NEVER happen!!!) if the User chooses.
    6. Should background synchronize and optimise catalogs (databases) in the BACKGROUND!
    7. Should support 16 bit images and processing
    8. Look as sweet as Elements 12 - certainly NOT essential
    9. include sophiosticated batch conversion and resizing particularly for Digital Projection - Currently 1400 x 1050 sRGB in UK Club community
    10. Better plugin integration - its clumsy in Lightroom - see Photoshop for HOW TO DO IT.
    11. Most important - support new cameras for up to 5 years post relaese instead of abandoning the CUSTOMER and hard marketing Creative Cloud which is great for Companies
    12. I could continue but I will not as LR6 BETA is imminent (or should be) I doubt any of my suggested changes that are not already implemented will be?

    Dumb Marine,

It seems at least some of your requests are already implemented, thus I was confused by having them requested for Lr6.

This is already implemented, no? I mean, images can be stored anywhere (that's always been true), and @Lr5 one can edit via smart previews when 'real' image is offline.

    DumbMarine wrote:

Lr already takes advantage of 64-bit operating systems (but not GPU acceleration). In other words, the 64-bit version is a recompilation of the source code, not a 32-bit version that runs on 64-bit computers too.

Not sure what you meant by the 2nd part of this, but part1 can be done using Jeffrey Friedl's Online Lightroom Configurator.

User can choose to buy/maintain Lightroom independent of Creative Cloud now. Granted, if you buy Photoshop + Lightroom, Lightroom will be available via the cloud, but even then you can download and install independently if you prefer - stand-alone download will find creative cloud licensing, I *think* (somebody correct me if that's wrong).

    DumbMarine wrote:

It already does - always has.

Perhaps I've misunderstood what you were asking/hoping for in some cases - if so, please forgive and enlighten...

    Rob,

Thanks for a more measured response than a couple of others I have had.

By Network intelligence I mean for the catalog?  I dont have LR6 But my understanding is the catalog cannot be on another machine on a network (server)?  Great news if it is.

By font size I thought most development companies (of software) had enabled their products for the disabled?  But thanks for the pointer to Jeffrey Friedl's Online Lightroom Configurator, something I was unaware of.

Quote "Should be independant of Creative Cloud" - we will see how long this persists.  If you use standalone CS6 (Creative Suite Production Premium) as I do you will see many part implemented CC applications that just dont work but are deployed to me needlessly.  Indeed I can make a decision (and I have) not to be TRAPPED ON THE MERRY-GO-ROUND that is Creative Cloud.  While CC makes sense for large commercial users and those that always pass costs off to customers it makes no sense for the enthusiast.  Even the dramatic price cutting ADOBE has been forced into to encourage uptake is risky as the adopter cannot control inevitable future price-rises but by then stand-alone Photoshop (for example) will be unavailable?

Quote "Should support 16 bit images and processing"  - my misunderstanding.  I know LR4 can import 16 bit images but is the Print module outputting in 16 bit?  It might well be but something I read recently said not?  LR5 might well already do this but I am waiting for LR6 to upgrade.

    thanks

    1) Layer Support -> But just on a very small scale. Brushes somewhat accomplish this, but I would love to be able to apply a setting (say Sharpening with Radius XX) and then apply another sharpening (Radius YY).

    2) Built-in HDR support

    3) Photomerge

    4) Combining images into a single image. 4 back to back photos merged into 1 photo like a photobooth style strip. Vertical and horizontal support.

Layers and HDR support are near the top of my Lightroom wish list as well.  I'd be surprised if we see them however as a major rewrite of an already great program would prabably be required.

    Hi

I agree with your comments but the worse part of an ADOBE one year release schedule is they ABANDON the old version and ONLY the new version supports new cameras.  This is especially true for Photographers in the know that almost exclusively use RAW files as you cannot use the newer Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) and are obliged to convert to DNG format.

The issue is that ADOBE are rather 'Up themselves' as a company and arrogant to boot.  Historically pride comes before a fall and this is true of software companies if they longterm abuse cutomers and force them down paths they do NOT want to go (Creative Cloud).  I strongly suspect many companies are ploughing extra investment into image manipulation development areas to prepare to rival and perhaps better ADOBE's offering?  Meanwhile ADOBE do rule the roost but I was very impressed with the free GIMP software that used to be nerdy but is now more accessible.  Still not easy to use but powerful.

    regards

    Ian

Every single Raw converter, and every single software company that provides such software, does exactly - and I do mean exactly - the same thing.

Nobody is "forced" down paths that don't want to go down - not with CC or anything else.
