Question

Which apps should I be downloading for a CC Lightroom Classic Plan?

This seems like such a stupid question to have to ask, but I've been confused about this for awhile, and now that I'm downloading everything to a new iMac, it is time to figure out the answer! On Adobe's Photography Plan download page, under Desktop apps there is Photoshop, Lightroom, and Lightroom Classic. On my old computer I only ever updated Photoshop and Lightroom Classic, assuming that Lightroom was for the Lightroom CC plan (and I didn't want to accidentally find myself with a new plan). But lately I've seen comments about downloading all 3 for the Lightroom Classic Plan, as the plain "Lightroom" app is what allows communication with the mobile apps. Is this true, and should I download all 3 apps?

Thank you!

The conventional and "safe" advice is to stick with what you have become used to.  Currently that is called Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC.

The second "safe" plan is to pick the old Lightroom Classic OR the new Lightroom CC and migrate your images to cloud storage.  Common adivce is to not mix the too.

That said, Adobe is slowly marching to an "ecosystem" approach where all work together in an interconnected fashion that enhances our enjoyment of sharing images electronically.

Install both Lightrooms and Photoshop.  Go slowly with a few favorite files.  Take advantage of the Portfolio app that is included.

As an example, I worked through it and have a personal "Website" Portfolio all managed from Lightroom Classic.  Bill Sprague's Digital Imagery

I can also take a picture with my phone had have it on my desk computer in Lightroom Classic when I return to my office.

Thanks. I am not interested in changing to the Lightroom CC cloud storage plan - I'm sticking with Lightroom Classic. So, sounds like I should not be downloading the plain "Lightroom" app to my new computer. I wish Adobe would not put extraneous options on their download page when you get to that page specifically from the plan to which you subscribe!

I do have the mobile apps installed on my iPad in order to upload photos from my camera to the iPad and then hopefully migrate them over to Lightroom Classic when I get home. But I haven't tried this yet as I am waiting to receive a new iPad with sufficient storage.

I'm not familiar with the Portfolio app, so I took a look at yours. I will look into that app some more.

    Thanks again.

    I guess I don't write very well!!

Yes, stick with Classic.  But, install Lightroom CC too.  It is the computer version of the mobile (iPad and iPhone) apps and facilitates the links to and from mobile devices to Lightroom Classic.
