Which eGPU for MacBook Pro 16 - 2019

Hello,

Apparently there is no more Blackmagic eGPU available on the Apple Store in France.

I really need to speed up my new MacBook Pro 16 - 2019 (Catalina 10.15.7) with a DELL UP3216Q (32") monitor for processing large files with Lightroom Classic 9.4

I don't understand much about the technical specifications of the computer...

 

Which card to use? (knowing that 3D and games are not concerned)

Apple says the following cards can be used in an eGPU. (Source)

- Radeon RX 470

- Radeon RX 480

- Radeon RX 570

- Radeon RX 580

- Radeon Pro WX 7100

- Radeon RX Vega 56

- Radeon RX Vega 64

- Radeon Pro WX 9100

- Radeon RX 5700

- Radeon RX 5700XT

- Radeon VII

- Any other?

 

In which external housing?

- Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box?

- Razer Core X or Razer Core Chroma?

- Any other?

 

Also, according to barefeats will LR Classic be significantly speed-up?

MacBook Pro (16”, 2019)

2,4 GHz Intel Core i9 8

32 Go 2667 MHz DDR4

AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 Go

Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 Mo

Mainly:

- realtime viewing at 100%

- sharpening/Noise reduction
- healing

Then the rest of adjustments

PS I know that reducing the window size is helping, but I work on Pentax 645 Z files (51Mpix) and really need to view maximum of the file at once, hence the 32" monitor…

BTW I've just read elsewhere that the monitor needs to be connected to the eGPU card thru Thunderbolt, in that case, all my wonderings about eGPU would be just nonsense!

What actions in Lightroom Classic are slow? Getting a better GPU does not speed up everything in Lightroom Classic.
