Hi! So I have Lightroom CC but I am debating whether I should keep it, or get Version 6 of Lightroom Classic? Which one is better?

The new Lightroom Classic is the continuation of the Lightroom CC that you are accustomed to. It is very similar to the Lightroom CC you have been using. It has a couple of new features. It is still folder based on your computer. It is still a subscription program.

Lightroom 6 is the last standalone version of Lightroom. It doesn't have all of the features that Lightroom CC (as you have known it) has. It will be updated with new camera support until the end of the year. It will continue to be sold for some time to come. But will not be updated in any way after the end of 2017. There will be no additional versions of a standalone Lightroom.

The all new Lightroom CC that has just been introduced is a new concept where Adobe is going to lead us to having all of our images stored in the cloud and accessible on our computer and all mobile devices with a similar interface on all devices. The new Lightroom CC is not full-featured yet. It is a version 1.0 software that will evolve over time.

If you want to stay with the same type of program you have been using then you would probably want Lightroom Classic. If you want to go to a standalone version then you will want to purchase Lightroom 6. Just remember that you will be purchasing the last version that will ever be produced and it will not be updated or upgraded after the end of this current year. So you will have to evaluate your needs and plans for the future and decide what will be best for you.

The question that seems to be on everyone's mind right now is what is Adobe's long-term commitment to Lightroom Classic.

Jim,

With due respect, I suggest that Adobe will stick with Lightroom Classic.  Two reasons.  One is that it is a "bread and butter" contributor to their business.  Lots of customers pay to use it.  Second is that Adobe has said they are committed  to it.

Yes, I agree. In fact, I am banking on them doing so. I am committed to staying with Lightroom Classic CC.

Due to the confusing name changes, your question is hard to answer.

I just checked my favorite NY camera store and they will sell be Lightroom 6 on a disk that I can keep forever.  It is wonderful software.  But, it won't be updated.  If you enjoy what it does with the cameras you have and your shooting habits it is a wonderful choice.

The new name of "Lightroom Classic" only means it is the latest, and perhaps best, of the Lightroom disk based choice offered.  My personal view is that a continued subscription is "better".

Better answers might come if you offer a description of what you like to shoot and what equipment you use to shoot it.

I shoot with a Canon Rebel t5i. I shoot mainly portraits, or couples. I have worked with photographers who work with the version 6 of LR. So I'm leaning towards that because I have learned on that format.

Depends on how much you're paying.

The Photography Plan with LR CC + Photoshop + 1TB storage costs about $20/month

The Photography Plan with LR CC + 1TB Storage costs about $10/month.

Nancy, you omitted one other plan!- (in the Drop-down menu)

The Photography Plan with- LR-CLASSIC-CC  + LR-CC + Photoshop-CC + (20GB Mobile Cloud Sync) costs about $10/month.

For Extra Storage add $10/month/TB
