WHY DO MY WHITES AND HIGHLIGHTS SHOW UP RED IN LR?

You have turned on highlight warnings (this is just for display, it is not part of the picture: showing you where the image as currently edited, is clipped or nearly so).

There are two small triangular buttons at top left and top right of the histogram panel. These buttons turn on and off the shadow and the highlight clipping warnings respectively (or else press J, or use View menu / "Show Clipping").

Thanks.  I was online with an Adobe expert last night for an hour and he was unable to come up with that.  Unbelievable.  Thanks again for the simple solution.

+1 "Unbelievable"- Maybe could not find it in the online 'help-Search' (which IMO is absolutely useless).

An article on the topic-
