Question

Why is Adobe Lightroom 12.5 removing my photos from its original folder?

Why is Adobe Lightroom 12.5 removing my photos from its original folder? I don't want this, I need them to stay in the original folder where I have them sorted. I would appreciate anyone's advise. This is a huge issue for me.

A couple of observations/issues

1.The source, Projects, is that a hard drive? A SD card? A phone? what?

2. Not shown, the right side panels. Is something odd over their. Cannot say as it is not shown. Please post a more complete screen capture.

3. Outside of LrC, using Finder, copy(never ever Move) the photos to the desired hard drive, the desired folder. Then in LrC attempt a Import, this time hopefully via Add.

4. if the above fails, then change the Import to Copy, then over on the right, change the destination. Attempt one import, just one image. If that works, then a previous bad destination would be the issue. At this point you can attempt Add.

Hello GoldingD,

Thank you for getting back to me and for your willingness to help.

1). I was pulling images from an external server into Lightroom that I have on my Mac, Desktop.

2). The right side was just the standard 'Panels', so I hadn't included it in the screen capture.

3). Great advise, I'll give that a try.

4). I would have, but the other buttons/options were not clickable links for me at the time...however...everything seems to be working now. I'm not sure if my system did an update over the weekend or what, but I seem to have the option to "Copy, Move, Add, etc." now.

Great.

but a P.S.

  • In many options, LrC presents what was set previously. The Destination in the Import screen is one of those.
  • If you modify that destination outside of LrC. Say you rename a folder for example, LrC will not know that.
  • Some issues that occur in LrC will not present a helpful error message, sometimes no error message. This issue during Import, selecting Add, with a now bad destination is one.
  • Some issues can occur in Lrc due to actions outside of LrC that should not matter, for example during Import, even if you are selecting Add, it will fail just as if you selected Copy, after fouling up that destination, an oddity. Why would Add get into a hissy fit on that occurrence?

You are probably importing the photos using the MOVE option. You want to use the ADD option.

See the documentation at https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/import-photos-video-catalog.html

PS: The software name is Lightroom Classic 12.5, not Lightroom 12.5

I no longer have that feature after the last software update.

Every Lightroom Classic user has that feature. First you click on Import, then you click on ADD. Please show us a screen capture of what you see when you try to Import. Use the "Insert Photos" icon to include your screen capture in your reply. DO NOT attach files.

It's not clear from your post when LrC moves your photos. If it's during import, then you should be using the 'Add' rather than 'Copy' or 'Move' options at top of the import window.

Hello Ian,

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

I do not have an 'Add', only an 'Import'.

It is happening when I import the photos. It didn't use to do this, its something that started after the last update.

It also won't save to the 'Same folder as original photo' anymore, even though I have that option selected.

Both issue appeared after the last update and its very frustrating.

Adobe Lightroom 12..5 won't save to same folder as original photo, even though I have it selected....why? I have done extensive searches online in hopes of finding a solution. I would appreciate anyone's help.

Are you trying to overwrite the original? That is not possible.

@Susanne5FBB If you move your mouse across to 'Add' the text should become light grey / white and clickable.

Note that I'll merge this thread with the other one you created to avoid confusion.

Thank you for your assistance, but I actually am having two different issues.

1). Lightroom is only allowing me to 'MOVE' the images I import. I created a short video to show that I am not able to select any other option.

2). Lightroom won't save to the original folder even though I have selected, "same folder as original photo".

I am grateful for your assistance.
