Why "Adobe Lightroom" and "Adobe Lightroom Classic CC" on the same PC?

I have been using Adobe Lightroom CC for quite some time and just accepted the "nag" to upgrade to Lightroom Classic CC.  I did this via the Apps tab in the Adobe Applications Manager desktop application.  In the list of apps showing install / upgrade  / try only one said upgrade; Lightroom CC.  Oddly though at the top of the tab it said Updates (2).

I pressed the Updates and watched as first of all Lightroom Classic CC was installed but instead of this being in place of Lightroom CC (which I expected to be deinstalled), as soon as it was complete the latter then proceeded with an update.

Sure enough, as confirmed in the Windows 10 Apps & Features window I now have:

Adobe Lightroom (no "CC" - Just "Adobe Lightroom")

Adobe Lightroom Classic CC

Both have today as the installation date.

This strikes me as odd, so I please invite comment before I take a system image (to play safe) and then try uninstalling the "Adobe Lightroom" app leaving behind "Adobe Lightroom Classic CC".

Many thanks.

So the one named "Adobe Lightroom" which shows CC 2015.14 is not needed, it is a version of Lightroom that can be (and in your case has been) upgraded to Lightroom Classic CC (version 7.1).

So if you can figure out how to uninstall CC 2015.14, you should do that as it isn't really needed since you have the upgrade installed.

Welcome to the mess Adobe has made of Lr naming.

With additional variations for device manufacturers, there is now 5 iterations (differing names) for Lr.

    Lr app for Apple TV

    Lr Mobile App

    Lr CC for desktop/laptop

    Lr CC for Web

    Lr CLASSIC CC

The first 4 on that list use a cloud based sync ecosystem for images/videos.

The last one (Lr Classic CC) can be used with the others but it requires a bit of extra management.

These support forums are replete with requests for help when attempting to sync all iterations with massive libraries/catalogs.

Go into "Adobe Lightroom" and find the version number of this application under Help->System Info, it is in the first few lines. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE THE ENTIRE WINDOW INTO THIS FORUM.

More than likely, you have Lightroom CC, and this is not what you called Adobe Lightroom CC but was actually Lightroom CC 2015.

Selecting Adobe Lightroom Classic CC opens an executable of the same name (as written next to the LR logo, top left)

Help  / System Info gives "Lightroom Classic version 7.1 [1148620]"

Selecting Adobe Lightroom opens an executable called Adobe Lightroom CC 2015

Help / System Info gives "Lighhtroom version: CC 2015.14 [1149743]"

Of course CC 2015 (I cannot recall the precise version) is what I was running before the upgrade ended up giving me two installations.

Therein lies the rub (which I forgot to mention, I am sorry).

The Adobe Creative Cloud App only shows Lightroom CC Classic.

Lightroom CC 2015 does not appear.

In other words it looks like CC 2015 has been replaced by CC Classic (which is what I would expect) but in fact both exist as confirmed by them each being available to successfully run.

Unless I get a "no" overnight (I'm off to my UK bed now!) I will use Apps & Features to try and remove CC 2015 in the morning.

Thanks for your kind help and support.

Yes use the Windows Control Panel to uninstall Adobe Lightroom. That should actually launch the CC uninstaller.
