Why won't Lightroom import my photos?

Community Beginner ,
Sep 29, 2017 Sep 29, 2017

I try to import my photo files from my Mac Book Pro either from the hard drive, exterior hard drive or SD card and it will not import into Lightroom. Here is a screenshot of what I get everytime I try. Keep in mind that it was working fine a few days ago.

Any help would be appreciated

I suppose you are importing to other places than the moment before. Look at your destination with the import dialogue:

For changing the permission (if needed), look here: macOS Sierra: Set permissions for items on your Mac

This means that the Destination folder does not have WRITE permission in your operating system. So you need to do one of these two things:

  1. Change the Destination folder to some place that does have WRITE permission; or
  2. Change the permission in your operating system so the Destination folder does have WRITE permission.

Thank you for your answer and help. I'm not very tech savvy in regards to your answer. How would I go about doing what you suggested. I don't even know how this happened in the first place as everything was working fine one moment and then the next I couldn't import. Just wondering also what caused this malfunction.

I just checked the destination folder when I import. And it was not going to Lightroom. Once I changed it back to Lightroom, it has been importing just fine. Thank You.

Thank you. Yes I changed the destination folder as it was not going to Lightroom. Somehow it had changed to another location. I changed it back to lightroom and it is working fine..

Have you just encountered this problem?

Is this a new drive or is this a location that you have been using for some time?

Have you recently updated your OS?

What kind of external drive is this?

Are you having the same issue with a different external hard drive?

Select the disk icon on your desktop > then CMD I > look a the bottom to see if the lock is closed and check your permission status to see if you have Read-Write checked.

You may need to go into Disk Utility and do a "Verify Disk" and then "Repair Disk". Make sure the drive is fully backed up before doing any type of repair.

Yes, the problem showed up unexpectedly. It's not just photo files from my hard drive but any photo file to SD card as well.
I have not updated my OS. Still the same one that came with my Mac.
I will check my disks as you suggested also. Thank you cmgap
