Working with Lightroom classic and external hard drives

I have 2 external hard drives connected to Lightroom Classic on my MacBook Pro with Monterey OS. Once in LR the external drives are highlighted but the folders are grayed out so I cannot access them through LR, only through the hard drives themselves. This had been working until I changed to a new MacBook Pro with the M2 chip. How do I reclaim the folders directly through LR Classic? Thank you.
