P: Bring back the ability of Enhance to create a DNG in the background. (LrC)

Participant ,

I just updated to Lightroom Classic 14.4 and although I do like the fact that I can Denoise without creating a DNG file, I still would like the option to select a series of images and menu: Photo>Enhance... to let it create dngs in the background which enables me to work on other images while it;s doing those. Currently, in 14.4 it takes a long time, especially if I have multiple images that I am denoising and I cannot do anything elese while it's doing that process. Is there still a way possible to do it the old previous way of creating a DNG Denoised file? Seems like an oversight when implementing this new way and slows down my whole workflow.

  1.  After the recent update, the Enhance function (denoise) has become significantly slower. Previously, I could right-click on selected photos and quickly apply Enhance. Now, the process takes approximately 5x longer to apply Enhance to around 20 images.

Please consider bringing back the option to Enhance via right-click – it was much faster and more convenient.

System specs:

CPU: Apple M2 Max Studio

RAM: 64 GG

OS: MacOs 15.5 (24F74)

App version: Lightroom 8.4

Thank you for your work and I hope this feature can be improved again.

Hello,
After the recent update, the Enhance function (denoise) has become significantly slower. Previously, I could right-click on selected photos and quickly apply Enhance. Now, new ''AI DeNoise panel'  processing around 20 images takes approximately 5 times longer than before.

For example, if I need to denoise around 600 images from a low-light event, the estimated processing time is now 5–7 hours, compared to just 30 minutes before.

Please consider restoring the right-click Enhance functionality or optimizing the current workflow. This change has greatly impacted efficiency.

Why isn't non-destructive enhance mentioned? Is it withdrawn?

Hey @SandisLV

Aww, your last sentence made me smile—thank you for that! I really appreciate you pointing out the break in your workflow. I'm sorry to hear it's taking so much time to get the results you're aiming for. To help bring more visibility to your suggestion, I’m going to move your reply to the Ideas section of the community.

Wow, this is very frustrating. I can't believe the previous option was eliminated. I pretty much Denoise all of my images, even those shot at low ISO's since it produces a cleaner image. I am going to have to use the previous version until this is addressed.

I have to say that while I appreciate the work to improve the raw enhancement functions, the end result for batch enhancement leaves a ton to be desired. It’d be nice to have the old enhancement dialog back that then applies the new functionality so we can still select a number of files and leave it to process while we work on other things.

The current suggestion is to do this by syncing the changes, but this is not intuitive and I’d say a bad experience. Not only does it prevent working on other files while this process goes on (in contrast to the old method) but it also does not give any kind of estimate or feedback until after the first file is finished.

I’d also like to see some prominent mark that it was enhanced so that you are aware at a glance in the grid view. If that already exists I’ve not noticed it.

Second this. It's inconvenient, it's slower and worst of all: The Denoise breaks under specific circumstances.

I denoised the image on Lightroom Desktop, exported to DNG and moved the file to my LR Mobile device.

The File looks fine and Clean after opening, but as soon as i apply any preset to the image, the denoise is just gone.

Hardware:
– iMac M3, 24 GB RAM, macOS Sonoma
– Lightroom Classic 14.4, updated June 17, 2025

Issue:
Syncing settings that include the new non-destructive Denoise takes up to 25 seconds per image, even on clean RAW files (Canon .CR3, ISO 1600). Syncing 29 images took over 15 minutes. This behavior did not exist prior to version 14.4.

Clarification:
I need Denoise on all images – it’s not optional in my workflow. But having every single image re-run a full AI noise analysis on paste is completely unreasonable. There are now no workarounds:
– The old "Enhance…" dialog can no longer be applied to multiple images
– Denoise must be run individually
– There is no caching, no batching, no parallel processing

Expected behavior:
If Adobe is replacing the one-time “Create DNG with Denoise” model with a real-time slider, then it must support:
– Batch application
– Caching of AI output
– Instant sync across images without reprocessing

Ask to Adobe:
Please comment if this is a known issue.
Are improvements planned – and if so, when?

Thank you.

Make sure Auto Sync is enabled and then run Denoise. It will be applied to all of the selected files.

Having said that, the Technology Preview UI that Bridge/ACR was using was a lot better.

I wrote something here today, it has an answer, that explains it, but this needs to be solved really fast: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/lightroom-14-4-paste-settings-from-prev...

For now i press "stop" when it starts denoising again, it pastes all settings except second denoising (checkbox is empty) and just by clicking on denoise checkbox it is immediately aplied. without any duplicite calculations.

My solution is good for me when i go from one image to another after batch denoising. ...and I think it must be in problems/ bugs, because Lightroom tries to denoise twice, even though it's already calculated.

It's just wrong for a program that is primarily used for a large number of images to be regularly synchronized to match together visually.

Hi @SandisLV

Thank you for sharing your feedback and system details — and I'm sorry to hear about the slowdown you're experiencing with the Enhance (Denoise) function after the recent update. We’ve also noted your request to bring back the right-click Enhance option, as we understand how valuable that workflow was.

To help increase visibility and ensure your voice is heard, I’ll be merging your post with an existing thread on the same topic. Please feel free to upvote the main thread — the more support it receives, the more likely it is to be considered by the product team in future updates.

We really appreciate your input and thank you for helping us improve Lightroom!

Regards,

Srishti

I understand the two programs received a similar update, but why was a post from the Lightroom CC board merged with a post from the Lightroom Classic board?

@Generous_view0D45

That is commonplace on this forum. It is likely the entire pile will be moved to Camera Raw instead, as the CR Engine underlies all of the Denoise work. Right now, we accumulate posts under LrC because it has 10x the views of CR and 3x the views of LrE. It is a visibility thing to ensure the most numbers of persons see it.

Hi there,

With the new update, we've received a new "Denoise" or "Enhance" workflow. In principle, I welcome the fact that we can now work with a single file. However, I used to frequently process large batches of images. So, I would select "image > enhance." While this took some time, the results were satisfactory.

That’s no longer possible in the same way. I've already come across the tip regarding presets, but I’m encountering a problem. As soon as I apply a preset, Lightroom runs the enhance function for that specific image. Once that's done, I have to manually update the AI settings for each individual image, which also takes time. This means the workflow has not only become more cumbersome but also significantly slower—processing, say, 10 images in a batch now takes considerably longer. My custom preset includes only the adjustments for denoising.

Yes, same issue here.
My workflow has become about 5 times slower since the new update. I'm currently considering reverting to an older version of Lightroom to maintain efficiency.

I really hope the Adobe team hears this feedback – the current (denoise) process is just not practical for high-volume workflows

How about allowing the amount to be set BEFORE it is applied so we don't keep getting the recalculation EVERY TIME? And retain the last setting? The new feature is implemented poorly as-is, it doesn't work as well as it used to.

What is this? How is this better?

I used to be able to edit a wedding that resulted in 1000 photos after culling. I could apply different strenghts of AI Denoise to different photos, depending on the ISO values. And then let my computer run all the tasks, with two or more progress bars in the top left corner in LR. I could go to sleep and have the photos ready for export in the morning for fast-delivery assignments.

But with this update, this workflow is impossible.

  • you can't run multiple AI Denoise actions at the same time. I use this all the time. For light, medium and strong AI Denoise
  • When AI Denoise is running, you can't do any work whatsoever in Lightroom. You are locked out. You used to be able to continue working on other photos. No time lost.

How could this ever get passed quality check? It chances so much. Lightroom is not Photoshop. People use this for large exports and multiple photos. Not one photo at a time. Please fix this.

While I really do love that this new update allows to take away the DNG file, it has tremendously slowed my workflow and is incredibly frustrating to work with. If there could be a way to apply this feature to multiple images at once, or at least allow for the que to occur so that I don't have to sit for 30 secs while each image I need it to be applied to that would be perfect. Is this in the works already?

Afterall, the whole idea of AI is to make life easier, not slower or harder. I appreciate the insight and attention to making this flow easier! Fingers crossed for a very quick fix to this as it's excruciatingly slow to work right now.

@Rikk Flohr: Photography

Can you tell me why my requests keep getting moved to the Lightroom Classic section? I’m using LR (not Lightroom Classic). And then I keep seeing tips like 'use Auto Sync', which doesn’t even exist in Lightroom.
