P: Client commenting, rating and liking collections without Adobe ID

LEGEND ,
Mar 02, 2015 Mar 02, 2015

Please allow clients with no Adobe ID to comment, like and rate Lightroom Mobile Collections. The un-logged in client access needs to be limited to a small number of features to allow clients to interact with their photographer over progress of work and providing feedback.

Only major missing feature from LR in my opinion.

I created a gallery and emailed it to my wifw.  When I opened the email on her computer it asked for a sign in.  Is that right.  She doesn't have an Adobe account.

Are you in Lightroom (web based) or Lightroom Classic.

During the gallery setup, you will find a setting to make it public. You have to set it to public or private link. You will need to set it to public to avoid the login requirement.

We can give you better directions if you can confirm which Lightroom you are using. To reiterate what Ken said, the directions depend on the version of Lightroom.
From Lightroom Classic you first sync a Collection. This makes a private gallery which is viewable at Lightroom on the web, or on another device logged in the same Lightroom account. To share the gallery with others you have to create a public link. View the synced collection in the grid view, and you will find a button in the upper right corner to make public.
From Lightroom (cloud app) all images are already online, or in the cloud. To create a public link you use the share and invite option. Change the link access view to "anyone can view" to create a link that can be shared with anyone. No login is required.

I'm using LR CC.  I only want selected people to see my gallery.  How do I do that?  Thank you

In this document- SHARE from Mobile

You will read- "create a public link, where anyone with the link can view your album."

The important words are "...with a link...".

The chances of anyone "public" viewing your gallery without knowing the link would be 'one in millions'.

So I would not be concerned about providing a 'public' link to family and friends.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 14.5.1, Photoshop 26.10, ACR 17.5, Lightroom 8.5, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 15.1.1 .

Edit: Wobert gave you a better answer than this. We were both typing at the same time.

Theresa_J will be able go give you a more complete answer than I can. However, I will try:

When you right click on a collection you have synced to the cloud, you will see Lightroom links/private links. If you have already gone past that poing, you will have to click on "view on web".  That will take you to lightroom.adobe.com/your account page. At this point, you will be in "Lightroom" on the web.

Once you are on that website/page, select the album you want to share, then at the upper right hand corner there is an icon of a persons head with a little + sign. Click there to start the Share and Invite process. In about the middle of the page, enter all the email addresses of the people you want to have access to the gallery (web page of your photos). Once the email addresses have been entered, select Can contribute or Can view. That seems to be the only control you have over the invitees privileges. I don't see a way to require a password. As soon as the invitees receive the email, they can click the link to see the gallery on line.

Sending the link at the top of that box gives you the ability to copy the link to the gallery with either Invite only or Anyone can view. Anyone can view allows every on on the web to see your gallery. I recently sent out a link to some friends with the Invite only setting and they told me a password was required. Since I haven't found a way to set the password, I assumed it was my own password. Which I didn't give them of course.

Here's the procedure from Lightroom or Lightroom on the web. They are exactly the same.
Share an album with someone else using Share & Invite, the person icon with the plus. The default setting is "invite only". With this setting you input an email address or mulitple ones in the share and invite dialog box. If the recipient of the invite has their own account, the album will be added to the Shared tab in their Lightroom account. The shared tab is found in Lightroom or Lightroom on the web, not in Classic. Recipients who have been invited to an album need their own account, but it doesn't have to be a paid one. They can sign up for a free Adobe account to view the album. With this account login, they can view, comment and give likes (hearts) to photos in the album. Their name is attributed to the comment and thus why they need an account.
When you change to the setting to "anyone can view", a public link is generated for anyone, with or without an account of their own. This is the method I use to share albums with my family and friends. Anyone with a link can view it, but no one is going to find the link unless you give it to them. If someone views the album and wishes to comment on images, they will need to create an account to do so. I believe they can use a google or Facebook account as well.
For those of you who use Classic... when you create a public link in Classic it is automatically an open link that "anyone can view". That would be anyone who you share the link with. They won't find it if you don't share it. Classic users have to use Lightroom on the web to change the setting to Invite Only. Each of the Lightroom applications have different default settings, and that is why this is confusing.
I hope it makes sense now.

This is exactly one of those things that drive me crazy...

Just because you have such a dominant position in the marketplace doesn't mean you shouldn't care about customer needs.
There are so many threads with similar and very reasonable customer requests or bug reports and it seems as Adobe is just ignoring them all together. No replies, no changes...

I sometimes find it hard to imagine what your view on humanity has to be, to be ok with this kind of blatant disregard for your customers.

So, rant over. I guess I'm be back creating Adobe-IDs for my clients, once again... 😕

Why is it that when I share an anyone can view link via Lightroom the recipient always has to sign in? This is SO inconvenient for people who don't use or care to have an adobe account. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

It's like adobe is wanting people's emails... come on you guys already cornered the market. The people that I deal with can care less about signup for an adobe account... they simply want to like and comment without having to sign in to an account that they'll never use.

They can sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple ID's if they'd prefer.

I whole heartedly agree. The workflow needs to allow for non-Adobe clients to provide feedback. Please integrate this ASAP!

The most recent album I tried to share with a client will not allow them to like or comment on images without creating an adobe account or signing in. I'm using Windows 11 with the latest version (Lightroom 5.3). I checked to make sure there was not a pending update in Creative Cloud. The album is set to "anyone can view", and the "allow likes and comments" setting is turned on. I've tried closing out of the app and re-open, stop sharing to sharing again, changed from "anyone can view" to invite only" then back to "anyone can view". I did this a few weeks ago with no issue.

"Anyone can view" allows anyone to view the album (if they have the link) without needing an Adobe account.

However, the ability to add comments and/or likes has always required the user to have an Adobe account (though they can login with their Facebook or Google account instead, if they have one).

5 years later we have AI but clients still can not put a like on a pic without signing in. Adobe? This is killing needed workflows for Professionals!!! You force us to use different software or cloud based services! ADOBE, PLEASE CHANGE THIS ASAP!!!

When sharing fotos online, we need our clients to be able to select pictures without signing in!!!

We need easy to use and fast selecting by simply pressing that like button. But one have to sign in first.

I agree that for editing or even downloading someone should sign in, but for a simple like or comment?

Right now downloading is possible without signing in, but liking is not! Thats just stupid. Sry.

Also it might be a good idea to alwas show a files name;) not just on pressing info...

Hi All,

I am struggling with the sharing of my albums with friends and family. I send out the album with the "public" link, so that people who are not Adobe / LR users can still see the pictures.

However, I tick the box for "can comment and like photos" as well as "can download".

I opted for the highest rights with the options "Can contribute".

When I send the link to my folks wiht these settings, I am surprised that they can download and see the pictures, but not like or comment. I tried it myself, it is not working.

The message pops up "Please register with adobe to do give this phot a like".

From my understanding, with the "public" link I sent to my family, they are able to see and download the pictures eventhough they are not adobe users. It makes no sense to me, that they can see and download the photos, but not like them and that they would need to register for this specific item?

However, it is really really important to me that they can like the pictures for various reasons.

I really hope that someone can help me and explain if there is a way to let family like photos in shared albums.

Beste Regards

M

It may not make sense to you, or indeed many users, but the system is designed in such a way that only people with an Adobe account can use the Comment/Like system. Note, that does NOT mean they have to have an Adobe subscription, it simply means that they have to open a free Adobe account and be logged into it when viewing the shared album. Furthermore, they can log into Adobe via an existing social media account, such as Google or Facebook.

No, according to my thoughts, you should know the person who is messaging to your message. Adobe ID insures that the person replaying to your photo is this and this that creates a safe invironment in this editng world. moreover, from past two years i had never found even a single demerit in adobe lightroom.

Of course you need to personaly know every single human liking your pics in twitter(x), insta, youtube...thats very important🤯 The Lr Apk37075879u3yg

I guess best solution would be, to let user decidee on their own who to share picturues with!!!

Great point about allowing clients without an Adobe ID to comment and like Lightroom Mobile Collections! This feature would enhance client-photographer interaction and streamline feedback on photo collections. Hope Adobe considers this addition!
