Question

Can I lock the order of Drives?

I've got three HD's with folders in in LR.

Drive 1 is an internal drive which I edit from. Drive 2 is an internal that I move edited images to. Drive 3 is a NAS box that I move my completed work to.

When I move images from drive 1 to 2 or drive 2 to 3 the order that the drives display in changes around so that the most recently used ones are at the top.

Is it possible to move them into the order I want them to be in and then lock them there so that LR doesn't move them around to suit?

I have never noticed this, so a few questions.

What operating system do you use?

How do you move images — in Lightroom Classic or in your operating system? Or other?

Where do you see the drives changing order? Please be very specific and include screen captures if possible

Suggestion: develop a workflow where the photos go directly on the NAS straight out of the camera, and then you don't have the effort of moving photos from here to there, and you won't have these issues.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using a Mac running 10.12.6

The issue is occuring when I drag a folder of images from one drive to another. At which point LR then moves the order of the drives around so the most recently used (i.e. the one the images are moving from and the one the images are moving to) are at the top of the list of drives.

The NAS box is too slow to edit from. It's used solely for archiving client images once everything is complete and delivered to the client. My workflow is:

Import from CF Card to LR a single folder within the catalogue on Flash Drive

Edit from the images on that Flash Drive

Once edited move all images to a second internal drive called 'Work In Progress' where the images stay until the client has seen them, placed their order and then collected their finished images.

Once client has collected and signed off on all finished images the RAW originals and the edited JPEGS (all in one folder) are then moved to the NAS box for archiving.

The issue is occuring when images are moved between internal drives and between the internal work in progress drive and the NAS box.

Are you doing this in Lightroom, or in your operating system?

The NAS box is too slow to edit from.

Unless your NAS is malfunctioning or not set up properly, the drive that a photo is stored on should have zero effect on edit speed.
