Question

Getting GPS data from my Canon EOS 6D when importing to Lightroom Classic

I have more tha 10 000 photos (in RAW - CR2 - format) shot with EOS 6Ds of a long trip I have just done. During the trip I imported them into my Windows laptop without any problem, getting the GPS coordinates given by the cameras.

Back home, I imported the files into the Lightroom installed in my iMac but I couldn´t get the GPS coordinates.

My Mac is running with the latest OS (Catalina), and Lightroom is up-to-date with the latest version (Lightroom Classic version: 9.2 [202001311240-2d026470]). Both Spanish version.

What is very strange is that a friend of mine, using his Mac, is able to see the coordinates when he runs the import on a sample files.

I have tried to change the settings in the window "Import" of Lightroom ("Aplic. durante la imp." - "Metadatos" - "Ajustes preestablecidos") but this does not provide me with the GPS data.

The fact that my friend is able to see the GPS data when he imports into his Lightroom tells me that there must be a setting I have to change, but I don´t know under which menu of Lightroom. Could anyone help me solving this issue that is important for me since I don´t know the location where I shot those more than 10 000 photos along a 50 000 km run.

Don't blame yourself -- it's an easy mistake that many have made.

"I have tried to change the settings in the window "Import" of Lightroom ("Aplic. durante la imp." - "Metadatos" - "Ajustes preestablecidos") but this does not provide me with the GPS data."

You didn't say exactly what you did with Import > Apply During Import > Metadata.  As a troubleshooting step, make sure it is set to None and import a few photos. Do the GPS coordinates now import?

If the GPS coordinates get imported, then you had a preset that was clearing GPS -- edit the preset and make sure the checkbox to the right of the GPS field is unchecked.

It was that simple ? Shame on me. I have tried on one photo, it seems working.
I owe you one beer, but with the quarantine we are in in Spain, it could be difficult.
I’ll go through all the pictures.
Many thanks again
