How to find a photo by date taken in Lightroom Classic

I feel foolish posting this query, however I tried before in many different ways over time to get an answer, and just today I have posted this query online.     I have 32,000 images (approx) and when I enter metadata into a search Lightroom only shows 1768 possibilities.  Down at the near bottom left I have "filters off".  Additionally, I have identified unknown camera, unknown lens, etc.  So it appears, superficially, that the only Search criteria remaining that I have identified is date.  However the number of images being supposedly searched does not change (ie 1768 possibilities!).

I have reached the limits of my abilities seemingly.  I have looked at videos, blogs and forums, but all have deeper questions, however none have given me the process I need!

Want to find a photo I took on 22 July 2018, or for North Americans, July 22 2108.  Please Help!

    You can also use a Smart Collection and set a date or date range.

      Are you using the filter search at the top of the thumbnails? If you cant see the filter bar press \ (backslash key) then go to All Photographs in the catalog tab.

      Click metadata and go to the date pane. You can drag down to make the pane larger if necessary – click image below.

      Then simply click on the year, month and day.

        Thanks Jon, as a result of your input, I went back and able to do.  I had thought that there were only 1768 dates on the images, so that they were not all there.  Now realise however that only refers to specific dates, so that on one of those 1768 days I might, for instance, have taken 204 photos.  Duh!
