Question

How to save edits in the develop module

I'm sorry for these basic questions.  I'm an old geezer who is a perpetual beginner.  After making edits in the develop module I go on to the next photograph.  Is my first photo automatically saved?  I have been reviewing some older pictures and it seems the edits are not saved.

Is my first photo automatically saved?

Yes, but in a way that is entirely different to many other photo editors.

First- Lightroom does not change the photo information in your original file in the computer.

Second- Lightroom continually writes any editing you do into the Lightroom Catalog file (as it happens), which is basically a database that holds all the information about Lr, your images, and the work you do.

And so important to backup and preserve the Catalog and never delete previews from the library if you intend keeping the image and its editing.

So there is no "Save" button in the Lr menus. Lr is automatically saving your work in the Catalog.

How are you "reviewing some older photos".?

Have you at any time deleted them from the catalog then re-imported at a later date to "review". ?

Is it possible you have the same photo referenced in two separate catalogs? You may see the edits in one catalog, but not the other!

Some answers from you will help with a reply.

    Regards, another "old geezer"

    Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

Thanks very much for that easy to understand reply. My grandson helped me load all my old photos (about 49,000) in Lightroom and I can view them there. Bob

Back to your original question. Your original image is never changed. It is left in its pristine condition. And I think that is really the way you want it to be. It's protected. And now you're probably wondering how to give someone a copy of the image that has all of the adjustments and changes that you make in the Lightroom. That's where the export function comes into play. You export a copy that includes all of your changes. Usually that would be a JPEG image because that is pretty much a standard format that everybody knows how to use and every photo lab knows how to print.

Develop module? There is no develop module in Business Catalyst.

What Adobe Product are you  asking about? This is the sub forum for the Business Catalyst product which is a CMS that makes websites.
