Question

Lightroom 9 + Catalina + Sony ARW files = disaster?

Lightroom 9.0 / Camera Raw 12.0 / Macbook Pro / Catalina / Sony A9ii

Upgraded to Catalina. Bought Sony A9ii. Can't upload ARW files. Tried to update LR ... waiting, waiting, waiting. Go to forums.

If I'm reading the forums correctly, I can't read the ARW files without upgrading LR but can't upgrade LR because Catalina and Lightroom don't work together. Is this accurate?

Either way, what do I do now?

Thanks.

Glad you got it resolved.

If the update won't install, the fix is to use Creative Cloud cleaner (download from adobe) to wipe your installation and then reinstall Creative Cloud and install Classic. Some people are having the Update installer hang up on Catalina if Lightroom was installed before the Catalina update.

The Sony a9 II requires LR 9.1:

LR 9.1 runs fine on Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina), with just a few glitches that don't affect most people:

You said, "Tried to update LR ... waiting". Often, when there are problems with updating LR, logging out of the Creative Cloud desktop app and logging back in resolves it.  If that doesn't help, then please provide details on what exactly you did to try to update and what you're observing. (A screenshot could help.)

Seems to be resolved. After logging out as you suggested, I chose to 'repair' Creative Cloud rather than deleting it and all is well ... so it seems. Pix downloaded!

Thanks for reading my dilemma and pointing me in the right direction.
