Question

lightroom CC classic crashes on large import

I'm using Lightroom CC classic. I can import folders with low images counts, but when trying to import a folder of about 1200 images, Lightroom freezes up on the preview screen before actually being able to press the import button. I have to end task but when I restart the software, it gives error saying catalog already in use. So I have to close LR and delete the catalog lock file to be able to start the software again. Please advise... as I have had folders containing a lot more photos importing without a problem. is this due to a change in one of the updates? My C: has 45GB available and I am using 24GB Ram, so I know it is not a memory or space issue... What could be the cause? thanks

Your C drive is extemely low on disk space. 45GBs of what you think is Free disk space is extremely low in todays world. 99% of the time the reported free disk space isn't correct. It is usually much lower than what is reported.

But I suspect your problem isn't totally related to disk space or RAM.

It is more than likely a heat problem. When LR is paging through the images you are trrying to import and display them in the import window the CPU and GPU heats up. Clean the dust out of your system, check that the fans are running, shut other programs down while using LR Classic.
