Lightroom Classic CC: Apple APFS

Hi all!

Because I habe to migrate from Apples Aperture to Lightroom Classic CC I can decide to use Apples new filesystem APFS on my external SSD (or on my „normal“ external HD).

Would you recommend APFS? Or better conventional HFS+?

    Even though it hasn't been updated in many years as it was dropped by Apple, Aperture works just fine on APFS drives. Like Just Shoot Me says, the OS takes care of disk access and in general it doesn't matter except in crazy cases like the file system being case sensitive while the previous wasn't which isn't the case here.

    Have you been able to make a comparison or offer any insights at this time as to which file system you decided to use?

    Well, I hoped that this issue IS tested already and wanted to know what you advise

    I decided to use HFS+ because of the fact I use Apples Aperture in parallel and Aperture might have problems with APFS.

    Unless I'm missing something, and have been for over 25 years of using a computer, the OS takes care of accessing the hard drive file system and there shouldn't be any problems with specific programs.

    Hi Marcus,

    Lightroom supports both the File Systems. We are not aware of any known issues working with APFS with Lightroom. Since it is more advanced and better file system out of the two. I'd suggest that you go with it. However, working with HFS+ would also have no issues as far as the storage is concerned.
