New Here ,
Mar 05, 2019 Mar 05, 2019

Hi all,

I have adobe photoshop lightroom classic CC 7.5 release and camera RAW 10.5.

My problem is when I go to import my RAW photo it gives me an error message "the file cannot be opened by lightroom. (1)".

I have no problem opening raw files in adobe photoshop.

I have the subscription, so I should be all up to date.

I am running on windows 8.1.

Can someone pleeease give a solution to opening RAW files in lightroom!?

Thank you,

Mattias

Raw files from which Nikon camera model?

Which version of Photoshop are you using?

FYI, the Camera Raw plugin is only used by Photoshop. Lightroom does not need it since it has Raw camera support built in.

To get support for newer cameras you need to update Lightroom. However Lightroom CC 8.x is not supported on Win 8.1. You'll have to upgrade to Windows 10 to install the latest version of Lightroom.

Adobe Photoshop Version: 19.1.7.

I use Nikon D3500.

Which version of windows supports the newer version of lightroom? And are there any free windows download options?.....rather not spend another $100 on windows software if I can help it....

I think to get Lightroom Classic CC version 8.2 (which is the current version as of today) you can't have Windows 8. You need Windows 10 (but not versions 1511 or 1607). See: Lightroom Classic CC system requirements

Win 10 version 1809 is required for the latest version of LR 8.2.

I have seen in some windows forums that it may still be able to upgrade Win 8.1 to Win 10 for free, although officially, Microsoft stopped doing that a while ago.

Google "free win 10 upgrade" and see what you find.

Win 8 is a dead OS, you would be better off reverting to Win 7!

Adobe Photoshop Version: 19.1.7.

I use Nikon D3500.

The D3500 was first supported in Lightroom 8.1 and Camera Raw 11.1

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

Photoshop 19.1.7 (aka CC 2018) is compatible with Camera Raw up to version 11.2 (current) so you can open your Raw files in Photoshop - but not Lightroom 7.5.

By the way, you've got at least Camera Raw 11.1 installed (maybe even 11.2) - not version 10.5 as per your original post - since you can open the Raw files in Photoshop.

In Photoshop, click Help (Win) or Photoshop (Mac) > About Plug-ins > Camera Raw to see which version you're running.

You got a choice:

  1. Upgrade to Windows 10 so you can install Lightroom 8.2 and Photoshop CC 2019. (Neither will install on Windows 8.1). Then you can open your Raw files in Lightroom,
    OR
  2. Convert your Raw files to DNG format. Then open the DNG files (not the Raw files) in Lightroom 7.5.

The latest version of Lightroom Classic CC is 8.2 / ACR 11.2 so you need to do some updating!

Also updating your computers OS to Win 10, build 1809.
