I purchased Lightroom6 standalone yesterday and after installing on my MAc I found out that it does not recognize RAW images with file extension CR2 taken by Canon EOS T7i.
Does anyone know a fix for this?
The Canon T7i was supported in the 2015.10/6.10 release of LR.
So as I have suspected you don't have the most current version of LR.
Open LR and go to the Help menu and select System Info and see what version is installed. It must be LR 2015.10/6.10 or later to support that camera.
What version of OS X are you running?
You can download the .13 update from here.

Indicating that you have "the latest" version doesn't hold a lot of water because it seems that the desktop manager doesn't really keep track as well as it should. When you are in Lightroom and check the "About" option, what version is indicated?
