LR Classic CC closes Explorer Windows

Hello All

I'm running the very latest version of LR Classic CC (mainly b/c I un/reinstalled it this evening and ran a registry cleaner).  The reason for reinstalling is b/c when I have LRC up-and-running, it causes Windows Explorer windows to unexpectedly close after a few seconds of my opening the window.  At one point, it was causing Photoshop CC 2019 to unexpectedly close when I went to edit images from LRC.  Someone gave me a workaround which apparently was effective in stopping that behavior.  However, when I do an export from LRC to a folder (settings for export are to open an Explorer window) OR when I open an Explorer window while LRC is running, the window may or may not unexpectedly close on me.  If LRC is not running, I have no problems.  If anyone has a solution for this, I surely would appreciate any assistance.

Windows 10 Home 64-bit  ver. 1809 Build 17763.503 w/24 GB RAM

Thanks

And, using that same google search, well actually modified to “windows file explorer closes during lightroom” yields one link referencing to a. corrupt Lightroom preferences file, and how to reset.

Replacing the Lightroom Preference File – Lightroomers

although it it does not address File Explorer crashing.

HOWEVER, when telling fellow members about resetting the preferences file I prefer this link:

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bARt-hoCc2Q

please understand. that by stating reset the preference file, I am not talking about changing the various settings back to defaults, although that will happen, what I am referring to is trashing the preference file and letting Lightroom recreate it. Several ways to do that, above link addresses the why, the how, and issues to be aware of

The preference file can get corrupted for no good reason, odd things occurs, and sometimes resetting it is a magic bullet.

How in the WORLD did you find all this on Google?  I tried to Google the problem and got practically squat!  That's what made me come to the forum.  Nice Going David!  I'll check out these links!  THANKS!

Google can be a bit tricky, too many words might lead to poor results, my second longer search for example was not as good as the first, but did trip up one link. Also, the order of your words can affect results

    Windows File Explorer Closes

    Windows File Explorer Closes Lightroom

    Lightroom Windows File Explorer Closes

    File Explorer crashes

    all might give different results

Oh, and at the bottom, google typically provides other search lines, sometimes those lead you to “oh, that’s better”

huh, was googling on ”windows file. explorer. closes” and amongst various links one fairly safe one:

Fix Windows Explorer Keeps Crashing - Driver Easy

actually talks of GPU driver needing an update, amongst other fixes.

Some. of those fixes but not the. GPU in this vid:

Have you perhaps, when the failure occurs, gone in and looked for a critical event (error) recorded in your events manager?

I suspect you need to read this:

How to create and manage folders in Photoshop Lightroom Classic

as as it appears you involve an opened file explorer window when exporting. I have no idea why would need the Windows File Explorer open when exporting.

The above link is about catalog folder management and other filing management.

Now typically, if you want to place your exports in a particular file location, a particular folder (aka directory) you could create that folder in the Windows File Explorer, then add that folder to the catalog within the folder panel, but it works better to accomplish that within lightroom using the folders panel,

And, I do not suppose that to export you are dragging the images to Windows File Explorer? Nah that’s just a wild bit of speculation, perhaps just a bit of nagging what if in the back of my head. Export via the export dialog in LR, specifying location to export to eithin that dialog.

First, you and I have entirely different opinions on “rude.”  Rude would be someone who has a lot to say, often demeaning or condescending but offers little help.  I prefer the straight-forward-get-to-the-point approach, so I certainly don’t consider you “rude.” Just the opposite, I am sincerely appreciative of your time to help me with this.

I have been opening the File Explorer window on export so once the window is open, I can drag out the .jpg of which I had been editing and upload it into the Internet (as opposed to going through the steps of minimizing LRC, going to the folder, opening the folder, searching for the image I just exported, etc.).  HOWEVER, I find that even when I am NOT doing an export (as a matter of fact, not doing ANYTHING in LRC), my File Explorer windows will still unexpectedly and randomly close. This occurs whether LRC is minimized or is a background window.  If I close LRC, there are no further problems while working on my PC.

Yep, latest, and nothing stands out as. an issue

P.S. unless your Facebook is a commercial site, that Facebook plug-in probably no longer accomplishes anything, blame Facebook. but that has nothing to do with your issue.

Ahh, and the explorer window closes on me, apparently File Explorer. Ok, Lightroom has vs very annoying habit of wanting to be the central focus sometimes, especially upon opening (not your issue)

Is the file Explorer windows closing, or minimizing, or perhaps being covered up by the LR window? is this what is happening.

about to be out , but others will probably answer based on your responses.

When you mention Explorer Window, are you talking about your overall desktop as in the computer crashes, or are you talking about Internet Explorer, or are you talking about the Windows File Explorer?

Something stands out when you mentioned. your PS version or copy, probably has absolutely nothing to do with your nasty problem, but can you provide similar info on PS (help/system info...)

And, from PS, not from LR your ACR version as to complete out misc info.?

First up you really need to go thru a few steps to properly verify your version

Yes, I may be considered rude, BUT THIS IS FROM LESSONS LEARNED IN THIS VERY FORUM.

in lightroom, click on Help, click on System Information, click on copy.

In your response paste that info in, from at least first line to just  after the plug-in section

interested in actually stated LR version, OS version/build, Display capability, GPU make/model, GPU driver version, DirectX or Metal (MAC) vs OpenGL.

all of which above steps will provide
