Nikon D500 and Lightroom 6 Still can't read files

I was using 5.7.1 and bought a D500. Figured out I had to upgrade after reading lots of postings. Used the upgrade from the Adobe site to purchase and download v6. Installed it and still cannot read my NEF files. Tried to contact Adobe support but was told the product was no longer supported. What? I just bought it from THEM tonight.

Any help here? Did I get ripped off buying a product that I can't use and they don't support even though I bought it from them?

The Nikon D500 requires at least LR 6.5: Cameras supported by Camera Raw , whereas you may have LR 6.0 installed.  Do Help > System Info to see the exact version you have.  You can download the latest (and last) version of LR 6, 6.13, from here: Download Photoshop Lightroom

And a biiiiig NOPE. Cannot read the nef files.

Jao, are you sure this is right? John seems to think I need 6.5, which I assume is CC subscription.

Please do Help > System Info and report the exact version string shown there.   LR's update mechanism is very unreliable, as you've discovered.

Installing the update now. Strangely, when I kept clicking "update" from within the program it always said up to date.

    John,

Thanks for your reply. I am now officially confused, likely my fault. If LR 6.5 is required, is it not a version update to version 6? Did I buy the wrong thing? I read that the D500 required LR 6 for support. I will upgrade to 6.13 but in the end, didn't I waste my money as I still cannot read the native D500 RAWs? Am I required to go to CC subscription to do this right or am I doomed to using the converter on my files?

No just update your LR 6 to 6.13 and it will read D500 files just fine. That is a free upgrade and doesn't require a subscription.
