Use GPU for image processing is Greyed out even though minimum specs are met

Hey Everyone,

I have just updated Lightroom Classic to the latest version and tried to Enable the new GPU image processing feature. When I go to the feature however the 'use GPU for image processing (Process version 5 or higher)' option is greyed out.

I have checked the suggested specs and can see that I meet them, I am currently on Windows 10 pro x64 running dual SLI Nvidia GTX 780's with the latest Nvidia driver as show below:

Video Card Details

Suggested Cards from GPU FAQ

I have read through the Adobe article (Adobe Lightroom GPU Troubleshooting and FAQ) and tried all mentioned workarounds/fixes, I have also turned off Dual SLI but the option is still greyed out as shown below.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and can provide some insight? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Adriano

'Use GPU for image processing' requires DirectX 12, which Nvidia says is not supported on the GTX 780 GPU.

Hi Tod,

Thanks for sending that link and assisting, the 780 doesn’t appear in the list in that link, but there is other literature from Nvidia (and the web) that states it does, also if I check dxdiag I can see that my system is currently running directx 12.

Also according to Adobe’s own system spec’s in their FAQ my card is supported.

I don't think the GPU FAQ document for Lightroom Classic 8.4 makes this information very clear, and I'm working with the documentation team to improve that page.

In the meantime please refer to the "Considerations for Graphics Processor (GPU)-accelerated features | Camera Ra1 11.4" system requirements at this link:

Camera Raw system requirements

With respect to these two checkboxes, Camera Raw 11.4 and Lightroom 8.4 have the same requirements.

As far as SLI goes, I have not been able to test this configuration specifically, and it may not be compatible with this feature. I do not believe it would provide any benefit for this feature compared to using one GPU.

Thanks for your patience,

David

Hi David,

Thanks for replying much appreciated, I have read the page in the link you sent through but not sure if I'm miss understanding something. After reading the page it looks like my rig still meets the requirements. I just read the thread that was branched from this one and noted there was a comment from an Adobe Employee that advised there is a known issue.

Re: GPU Acceleration

Just to confirm would this issue also relate to my rig?

Windows 10 Pro x64 (latest updates)

Geforce GTX 780

I totally agree re dual SLI, from my experience the dual SLI hasn't provided any benefits with image editing when compared to a single GPU, I do you use the dual SLI however for other applications.

Thanks

Hey Everyone,

Here is a little more information on my system, below is a screenshot and link to the product page from my Graphics cards, on the Nvidia website you can see that it states that it supports directx 12.

GeForce GTX 780 Graphics Card with Kepler Technology | GeForce | GeForce

Below is also the dxdiag information from my computer and you can see here that my system is running DirectX 12. So not entirely sure why this would not be working as everything I've read so far says that it should be and not entirely sure if the issue I mentioned above from that other forum relates to this.

Here is an output also of my Lightroom Classic System Info:

In MacOS 10.13 isn't available but when I install windows and all worked.... Lightroom is drastically improved when I retouching with my Wacom Pen tablet and Loupedeck+ controller... much more faster... but I want MacOS and will need to change video with Radeon VII to install new Catalina 10.15 and make it work like a charm...IMG_7561.JPG

Just an update on this, I just saw that the other day there was an update released to address this issue which you can find at this link - 8.4.1 Update , I also noted that the GPU documentation was updated also.

After installing this update I still have the same issue even though the graphics card is supported and does run on Direct X 12.

clipboard_image_0.png

I have even tried to explicitly set the Nvidia drivers so that lightroom Classic only uses one GPU (as I have an SLI setup), but still no luck. Has anyone else been able to get this working on 8.4.1?

I found the solution on another forum.  But it was on a Mac.  I followed the equivalent folders in WIN 10.

Shut down LR and PS. From File Explorer Options, in a start bar search, go to the view tab, click "show hidden folders..."

Go to USER/(Username)/Appdata/Roaming/Adobe/Camera Raw.  Remove the .txt docs from every folder in there.

Restart the computer and open up LR, you will then be able to click the GPU accellarator on.  Well, that is, if your system meets the requirements. Enjoy!!!

Oh, and here is the original post for Mac users, that I used to decipher how to fix it in Win10.  https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/adobe-lightroom-classic-9-1-camera-raw-12-1-gpu-for-image-process...

Worked flawlessly!

No way I, or anyone I know would have been able to come up with that

Thanks for taking the time to post this, and the Windows 10 interpretation

Sorry doesn't work for me. I have an Nvidia GTX 760 with 4GB memory, an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and 32 GB of Ram. I am running Win 10 Pro and have tried everything to get this to work without success. It's more of a nuisance than anything else, but it would be good to know why it isn't functioning properly.

I found the solution to this problem by brute force.

Follow the following steps :

  1. Close all the Adobe Applications.
  2. Open "C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\GPU"
  3. Then in each of the folders present in this folder there are "Camera Raw GPU Config.txt" files
  4. Open each one of those and find the line "crs:gpu_compute_quick_self_test_passed="False"/>"
  5. Change the "False" to "True" ie. "crs:gpu_compute_quick_self_test_passed="True"/>"
  6. Save the file and start the Adobe Applications.
