Hi Adobe Community,

I'm experiencing several recurring issues in Lightroom CC 8.4 related to the Masking tools and the Remove with AI feature. Here are the details:

  1. Add/Subtract Mask Bug:
When creating a mask and trying to subtract or add a new component (like a brush or linear gradient), sometimes the subtract option behaves as if it's adding instead. Even after deleting and recreating the mask, the issue persists. The only workaround I've found is to close and reopen Lightroom CC. This breaks the workflow and wastes time.
  2. Smart Mask Reset Issue:
When using AI masks like "Select Subject" or "Select Object," and applying edits (e.g. exposure, contrast), if I later try to subtract or add to that mask, the original edits reset unexpectedly. This makes it hard to work non-destructively and manage complex edits.
  3. Remove Tool Export Problem:
If I use the Remove with AI tool and then export multiple images in batch, the changes made with that tool are not reflected in the exported files. I have to export them one by one for the removal edits to appear, which is impractical for large projects.

Hi everyone,

We truly appreciate your patience as we work to experience this issue for ourselves. I appreciate how straight forward this bug seems, but trust me when I say, it’s a bit of a bear. If you are experiencing dropped edits on batch export, please read on if you'd be willing to lend a hand.

If you are seeing this bug, please take the following steps after you your next export that results in missing edits.

  1. Do not restart Lightroom
  2. Generate your Lightroom Diagnostic Log by going to Preferences > Account and hold the opt/alt key to expose the button to generate and save the Log.
  3. Next, grab three Lightroom log files from the following location:
    • On macOS, the path is ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Logs.
    • On Windows, the path is usually %APPDATA%\\Adobe\\CameraRaw\\Logs, which translates to C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Logs
    • The files are named:
      • Adobe Lightroom Log Latest v0.txt
      • Adobe Lightroom Log Latest v1.txt
      • Adobe Lightroom Log Latest v2.txt
  4. If you ‘re willing, export one of your problem original files as “original file + settings” so we can see exactly what you’ve done, no matter how simple it seems.
  5. Finally, set those files aside and send me a direct message. I’ll let you know how to send them to us.

After you’ve done all that, then I’d like you to try shutting down Lightroom and restarting your computer. I know that sounds basic, but one of our theories is that the issue might be related to multiple, long edit sessions and repeated exports. Personally, I usually just put my Mac to sleep, so I can unknowingly leave applications running for weeks before I restart. In contrast, we're constantly installing new test builds, so long uptimes are uncommon for us. It’s just a theory, but we’d be very interested to learn if this helps, one way or the other.

Thanks in advance for your help, and once again for your patience.

Best,

Jason

I edit my photos removing people and some elements and after that I try to export. But images are exported without my AI edits... So I need to edit one by one each photo and export manually each photo. There was no issue before

Recently I had the misfortune of scratching the light sensor of my camera which resulted in scratches appearing on every picture since then. As I don't have enough money to repair my camera, I thought the AI remove feature in Lightroom would be a temporary solution. After editing 100 pictures and exporting them I came to the frustrating conclusion, that Lightroom exports the AI remove feature only on some of my pictures, most of them still having the scratch

A solution would be to export each picture individually because I think Lightroom only saves recent changes and has to be updated in order to include older ones. This, however, would not be ideal considering I still have 1,000s of unedited pictures left to go...

Has anyone come across the same problem and found a better solution?

Is anyone else having an issue where their LRCC is not rendering the Generative Fill upon export? I have been having this issue for a few months, causing me to have to manually export each image that used gen fill, one by one, and then it will work. But this is a huge time consumer and pain. I have cleared my cache and tried some other forms of troubleshooting, but I think it's a bug. I have a brand new MacBook Pro M4 chip with 1 TB of SSD and 32g RAM, so that should not be the source of the problem. I'd appreciate any help or tips! Thanks all.

My exported images are showing items I removed with healing or generative removal. It's not saving. Not all but just some random ones. Any advice?

I have 670 gigs of free disk space. You're totally right that the disk space shouldn't matter Courtney A, bc I just recently switched from an old windows laptop with low ram, out of space and had no issues exporting Generative Fill edits. Now I'm on a brand new Macbook M4 Pro with more ram than I had before, all this open disk space, yet the issue is happening after the Adobe update on LR. They need to fix this.

Hey, @anitaw86235333. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I can understand this can be frustrating, and I'll help you figure this out.

The first issue you've pointed out is already under investigation and a fix may arrive soon: https://adobe.ly/46MpFVZ;

Thanks for including the Lightroom System info; it helps. The second & third issues could be related to the graphics processor drivers on your machine. Please use AMD's auto-detect program to install the recommended or latest version of GPU drivers.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

I’ve been working on this gallery for over 6 hours and I’m beyond frustrated. I’m using Generative AI and have made all the necessary changes, but when I try to export, the preview doesn’t show my edits. After exporting, the changes still don’t appear.

If I go back to the image, I see an icon prompting me to update. I’ve done this multiple times—over and over—but nothing changes. I’m exhausted and my eyes are literally burning at this point. Can someone please help me figure this out? My lightroom up to date.

Please help.

Lightroom version: 8.5 arm64 [ 20250805-2023-ec91a85 ] (Aug 5 2025)

Macbook Pro M4 15.6 (24G84), Sequoia 15.6

AI edits do not export into jpegs.

This is a loss of basic functionality that renders Lightroom UNUSABLE.

Lightroom is consistently prompting me to Update AI settings, but when I do, it doesn't solve the issue, and it prompts me to do so again. Every batch export, the files that do not have AI edits applied changes. It's random every single time and I have no way of knowing what photos are going to have edits applied.

Nothing written in any of these threads works for me. If I cannot export photos from Lightroom, I simply cannot use it.

Lightroom version: 8.5 (Aug 5 2025)

Macbook Pro M4 15.6, Sequoia 15.6

I currently cannot reliably batch export from Lightroom without half of my edits disappearing. Lighting adjustments export fine. It's the 'Remove', and I think sometimes 'Masking', edits that do not apply to exported images.

I sporadically get these yellow icons on edited images that say 'AI Edit Status' and it prompts me to update AI settings to properly render the edits. As soon as I navigate to other photos, and go back to previously 'updated' photos, all my removed objects are back and it prompts me to 'update' again. Like I scroll down in the folder and scroll back up and the AI edits are unrendered again.

I've also tried Photo > "Update AI settings in all photos."

The problem persists and random photos will export unedited, and it changes with every export. You can never tell what will or won't be exported properly. So I can't even reliably sort good exports from bad.

The only way I can export a correct image is to go to a single image, update AI settings, and then export. And then move to the next. I cannot navigate to any other photo after updating AI settings, before exporting it, otherwise the edits will disappear.

It is simply not feasible for me to do this for folders of 500-1,000 photos. Is there any fix for this? I'm currently running the latest version which, according to older threads, should have fixed the issue.

This issue is still happening to me as well, even though I did another update today (8/28/25) per the pinned reply from Rikk Flohr saying the newest update fixes these bugs with the AI settings not saving during export. I'm beyond frustrated and this is causing me to spend so much extra time by exporting them one by one. It's simply not feasible as business owners and this needs to be fixed ASAP, Lightroom!
