Greetings - can you supply your operating system version number and Lightroom version number?

If we can get this log file: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom CC/lrcc_console.log it would also help in diagnosing.  Can anyone experiencing this issue supply this?

I just bought a new Macbook Pro M1 Max 64g RAM and fully speced out with Ventura 13.1 OS and downloaded my lightroom suite. Premiere and Photoshop work, but Lightroom and Lightroom Classic fail to even launch or start. When I launch Lightroom Classic it freezes and is stuck on this gray screen. It doesn't allow me to open up settings or any options of any kind, and I am forced to force quit the application. Additionally, when I launch Lightroom it opens to say that it "has failed to initialize camera raw", and then closes the program without even opening and tells me that it has no solutions or workarounds.

This is extremely frustrating given how much of an investment this computer was. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting preferences, and updating what I could. Any help would be nice.

This still doesn't address or give any update on the LR CC issues. Appreciate the reference to the regular LR issue

Hi,

Kindly try to open Camera raw from Photoshop if you have it installed. See if it opens fine.

If it does not, Kindly use this cleaner tool to remove Camera raw:

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Rename both Camera raw folders by adding .old in below mentioned locations:
/library/application support/adobe/
~/library/application support/adobe/

If you have any presets, they can be manually restored later on.

Then please download latest Camera raw installer using this link:

https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-in-installer.html

Try to install Camera raw again. Make sure Photoshop is also updated to latest.

Then try to launch the app. It should work.

I just had this same issue but without the error initialing Lightroom.

I first determined using a different user account on my mac that I was able to launch Photoshop and Camera Raw and Lightroom Classic without error or issue there.

In the end, after removing all the adobe software and rebooting into Safe Mode I was able to launch all three pieces of software except that Lightroom for the first time (while in safe mode) gave me a user permission error (see attached photo), clicking the learn more link took me to this adobe help page.

I used the LightroomCorrectPermission.zip to download and run the script in Terminal and this fixed all my issues. Now I can open LrC, Camera Raw, and Raw files in Photoshop.

I will be interested to see if this also fixes your issue.

Hi Guys,

I am getting the dreaded 'failed to initialize camera raw' when trying to open lightroom on my m1 macbook pro.  I have manually installed camera raw from creative cloud, run the cleaner tool, reset the preferences using opt/shift, and run the script mentioned in one of the threads. I am wondering if theres is a compatability issue with the latest version of ventura 13.2.1?

Photoshop is also not shutting down when I close it (stays active in the dock) and I am having to force close.

Any help very gratefully recieved as I have purchased Lr and Ps for a paid assignment and need it to work asap!

Cheers!

I can't seem to figure out how to get LR opened on my new macbook pro. I have everything updated and I continually get an error saying Lightroom failed to initialize camera raw. I've updated cameraRAW from the adobe page, but nothing seems to work. I've already looked at all the discussions relating to this issue, but have yet to find an answer. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Ganjar290607428bzm

Thank you for reaching out. We're here to help.

Since when are you seeing this issue? Can you please share the macOS and Lightroom versions you are using?

Check out this thread: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-ecosystem-cloud-based-discussions/p-lightroom-error-failed-...

It sounds very similar, and there are a few troubleshooting steps mentioned. You might want to look at that and give it a go.

LR shows this at startup:

AglmaglOlnit failed to initialize Camera Raw: inittializing Lightroom:dng_error_unknown

and:

LrC opens with a kind of empty window, but does not work!

Everything is up to date running (latest versions) on a Mac Studio!

Strangely the apps work on the same computer under a different admin-user login!

Tried to login/ out and reinstall, but does not help!

Any idea? Let me know.

Hi @luminanz

Thanks for reporting this.

From what I see, you're on Lightroom version 6.2;

Since when are you seeing this issue? We have seen users reporting similar problems. You can have a look: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-ecosystem-cloud-based-bugs/p-glitch-in-ui-shows-image-in-up....

Does resetting preferences help?

(Steps here: https://adobe.ly/2JSym5e. Please back up your presets prior to resetting the preferences.)

Thanks for your reply, it seems the problem just in application installation folder permission on MacOs 13.2.1, if you change user folder permission to read & write it can be installed and running properly.

Now I can use Adobe Lightroom Classic, Adobe Lightroom Cloud Based and Adobe Photoshop 2023 normally

In my case, i have solved this problem following Mr.Travis suggestion.

This is great method when you're having an issue with an access to 'camera raw'

i had problems to open 'lightroom' due to 'Fail to initialize camera raw' and also in 'photoshop' i could not operate 'Camera raw filter' they both having trouble from same problem. so i recommand to use LightroomCorrectPermission.zip to solve. this is clear.

I can't get Lightroom to work on MacBook Pro 16 M2 Max 2023 model.

Photoshop is working...

For lightroom I'm getting this error message.

AgImageIOInit.init: failed to initialize Camera Raw: initializing Camera Raw: dng_error_unknown

I've tried re-installing latest version of Lightroom and others too but nothing works...It will not run!

Any help would be great 🙂
