I've got a rather large lightroom classic library (aprox 750gb's). I've recently downloaded lightroom CC and love the idea of being able to bring my photos everywhere I go, however my creative cloud subscription only gives me 100gb cloud storage. I was just wondering if it was possible to store all my photos locally using the new lightroom cc and only sync 10-20% of the photos that i'd need on the cloud. Or do you need to literally have more cloud storage than photos otherwise it wont let you import anymore?
Regards,
Liam

That all depends on how you intend to use Lightroom CC. If you create collections in Classic and synchronize those collections with Lightroom CC, those collections synchronize smart previews. Those smart previews are smaller images, but they do not impact your cloud storage. So you can have as many of those collections synchronize as you choose to have. Then you can import directly to Lightroom CC when you want full-sized images in the cloud. Those full-sized images will be synchronized back down to Lightroom Classic CC, so you will then have full-sized images in the cloud as well as on your local hard drive. In my opinion, 100 GB of cloud storage should go a long way if you manage it properly.

Hi JimHess,
The whole synchronizing collections makes complete sense. What I'm not understanding is being able to import into Lightroom CC directly. If I did this, the photos would then be stored full res in the cloud and on the local harddrive, however they would only show up in Lightroom CC classic under the collections? And can this then in turn ever be removed from the cloud? I'm just worried that my library becomes messy with certain files not showing up on one of the applications.
Are all synchronized phots stored in the cloud (e.g smart previews), or only the full res images?

They do NOT show up only under collections. They show up in their own folder structure in the place where you choose. I have mine synchronized to an internal hard drive. It is completely different than the collections that are synchronized FROM Lightroom Classic CC.
If you choose to delete the full-sized images from the cloud, the images that have been synchronized to Lightroom Classic CC will be deleted as well. So choose carefully when you choose to delete images.
