Convert to DNG Before Import into Lightroom

Should I convert my RAW files into DNGs before I import into Lightroom or does it matter?

That is your choice. It doesn't matter for things like editing, but some people prefer DNG and others prefer to keep the original raw format. I prefer the latter.
