I am using a third party deployment solution, and I need to have lightroom look to a different location for the catalog file. Is there a way to modify the install to have lightroom look to this new location for all the computers i run the deployment on?

In preferences you can set LRCC to store copies locally rather than use the default cache. But you need to specify a drive or external hard drive. I’m not sure about silent install deployment but you would probably need a separate folder for each user. I prefer the default cache which is more efficient e.g. local copies are eventually replaced by proxies optimized for computer/device.

I need to make the change in the catalog location prior to install or would need a way to copy a preference file to each computer to set the new location. Your suggestion would work but would require me to touch every machine...

You must be referring to Lightroom Classic CC, because with Lightroom CC (the cloud-based Lightroom) you have no control over where the catalog is stored. The catalog is stored in the cloud.

When we launch Lightroom CC, I get an error stating that the catalog file cannot be created on a remote server or shared folder. It is attempting to create it in the users Picture folder, which in our case is redirected to their home folder on a file server...

There must be a point of clarification here. Adobe has created a naming confusion. Lightroom CC is NOW the name for the cloud-based Lightroom. There is no local catalog for Lightroom CC, the cloud-based Lightroom. Lightroom Classic CC is NOW the name for the file-based "traditional" Lightroom that we have been accustomed to using for the last decade that uses a catalog stored on the local computer. Which version of Lightroom are you really referring to?

The default location for the local library is on the local system drive (User's Pictures library on Mac, AppData>Local on Windows). There is no preference setting which allows that to be changed, your only option to have it stored on a different drive is by using a symlink/alias mechanism....but even then I'm not sure about re-directing to a server.

To clarify, currently our c:\user\%user%\picture folder is redirected to the users home drive on a file server. So when Lightroom launches it pops up an error due to the fact that you can not create the local library on a file server or shared folder. What I am hoping to do is to change the location that LRCC stores this local library so it stays on the client machine. But it is not looking to hopeful....

Sorry, I've no idea how/if you could get around that. Like you, I suspect you can't.....the initial location, even for a link, would have to be in the default location, but as you've redirected that to a server Lightroom doesn't like it.

I apologize. I haven't encountered that type of Lightroom CC installation or deployment. I don't use Lightroom CC that much, and have only used it in conjunction with my Lightroom Classic CC. The message is correct, the catalog cannot be located on a server. The catalog must be on a drive that is the local to the computer running Lightroom. However, someone who is more experienced with Lightroom CC deployment will surely have to assist you. Again, I apologize.
