Detailed export settings?

Jumping back into lightroom after some years out. I'm trying to adjust some specific things in my export (specifically limiting file size and selecting PPI), but I can't find these settings anywhere. When I click export -> custom settings, I can adjust the Adobe preset to JPEG small, large, or original + settings, but I have no detailed settings. Screenshot of my export window attached.

Correct answer Rob_Cullen

1) Select the [Custom Settings...] Option-

2) Select JPG

3) Set Dimensions to [Custom]

4) Set the [Long Side] Dimension in INCHES

5) Set the PPI you want

The result will be an image file that has pixel dimensions determined by [INCHES x PPI]

eg. 10 INCHES x 300 PPI  will give a file that is 3000pixels on the Long Side.

Follow up question, if I can press my luck 🙂 Would downsizing in this way make the image less ideal for printing? I'm hoping to trim file sizes a little without sacrificing the high resolution / print readiness, but I know I might have to choose one or the other.

"no way to access the detailed export panel from previous versions?"

Not sure why you would ask this. TBMK the 'Custom' options have always been available in all versions of Lightroom-Desktop.

And what is your purpose for "trim down my file sizes"? Are you referring to Exported images or your original files in the Lightroom Cloud?

"Would downsizing in this way make the image less ideal for printing?"

That depends. By stating [Custom Dimensions] and [PPI] you will ALWAYS be re-sampling the image. That re-sampling may upscale the image, or it may reduce it (downsize). ie pixels are either added or removed from the image.

I would suggest that any re-sampling is "less ideal".  Leave the exported image at the 'native' pixel dimensions of the original for most printing. Simply use [JPG LARGE  Fill Size 100%] and you will get the best IMO.
