Edits Failing to Save Lr Mobile (iPad & iPhone)

This issue has been happening intermittently on both my iPad and phone versions of Lr Mobile. I will edit a photo and hit the back button to go back to the album. I will notice photo I just edited will look odd in the album view. It's zoomed in further than my edit's crop was. I'll go to it and it will load for a second with the edits and then totally revert back to its original state. Lighting, color, cropping, masks, everything! Go to versions and there is no history. Just have to start all over. 

There is no rhyme or reason to it. Like I said, it happens on both the phone app and the iPad app. Does it on somethings and not on others. It's getting really frustrating.

Hi @mikemoriendi!

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing in Lightroom.

It sounds like there might be a problem with the app trying to synchronize your edits to the cloud. Could you log in to Lightroom Web and check if there are any sync issues? You can follow this guide.

There is nothing syncing on either app. It always says Synced and Backed Up. The web version shows no edits but it also doesn't show editing tools at all. Just seems to show me the albums and what's in them. That's it.

Let me clarify. There is nothing stuck syncing is what I meant. Most things sync as normal and then show Synced and Backed Up.

Hey @mikemoriendi! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Quick question — does this only happen with RAW photos, or do you see the same behavior with photos taken on your iPad or downloaded from the internet? Also, how are you capturing the photos you're editing? If you can share the camera model and file format, that’d be super helpful.

 

It’s definitely odd that you’re not seeing the editing tools in Lr Web. Could you share a screenshot of what you’re seeing? Normally, clicking on a photo should bring up the editing panels.

 

You mentioned it happens intermittently — have you noticed any pattern when it occurs? Sometimes an unstable internet connection can cause issues like this. Also, just to double-check, the latest version of Lr Mobile is 10.3.1 — could you try updating and see if that makes a difference?

I primarily edit RAW from a Nikon Z5 camera. Very rarely use JPG and never use the native Lr camera.

 

I know see the Lr Web tools but all the images that I am having the issue with are exactly the same there. They show no previous versions or any of the edits done.

 

I have no pending updates for Lightroom on my iPad or iPhone in the AppStore. I have refreshed the screen and they show as up to date.

Hi @mikemoriendi! Thanks for checking in. If you try making your edits in Lightroom Web, do they stick, or is it the same issue as in the app?

Also, it might help to try resetting your Lightroom preferences. This will return the app to its default settings, so just be sure to back up anything important first. Here’s how you can do that.

@Aleke I didn't try using the web version because it's not a version I use. I have never had the issue with desktop only Mobile on iPhone and iPad.

This reseting preferences article is about doing it on desktop and not Mobile, where the issue is at.

Lightroom Mobile on both my iPad and iPhone is randomly losing edits. After editing, the photo sometimes shows a zoomed-in thumbnail, then reverts to the original with no history or versions saved. It's inconsistent and very frustratin.

Hi @mikemoriendi — thanks for pointing that out, and sorry, somehow I missed that the issue was happening on mobile. Totally my oversight!

 

@ethan john545, @mikemoriendi, and any others affected, when you get a moment, could you try clearing your Lightroom Mobile cache to see if that makes a difference? If it doesn’t do the trick, it’d be super helpful if you could let me know the exact model of the devices you’re using, along with the OS and Lightroom version. I’ll pull everything together and share it with the team so we can take a closer look.

Hello @mikemoriendi 

 

I am not immediately able to reproduce this with the last app version released, v10.4.  Could you try updating the app?  To see the update, open the Lightroom Mobile app listing to see the app details in the App Store app.

 

If it still reproduces with the latest release, could you possible share a screen recording?  Here's a page that mentions how to use iOS's built-in screen recorder: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102653 

It might help us see your workflow.

 

Also, right after you reproduce this, please generate and send in a diagnostic report.  To do this, go into Lightroom's App Settings > Help & Support and long press on the text "Access our support forums."  After a few seconds a LR will generate a diagnostic log -- please send that in, with a short note that helps us match the log to your name/topic here.

One more question: are you also using Lightroom or Lightroom Classic on the desktop?  If so, is the desktop app open while you're editing on LR Mobile?

@Charlie.D As I mentioned I am on the most recent update.


I don't see what the screen recording is going to do other than show what myself and @ethan john545 have both mentioned. I prefer to not do that.

But I wish @Aleke would have mentioned the diagnostic logs earlier. I had no clue that was a thing and I would think that should be the first thing someone from Adobe would ask for. The next time it happens I will do this and send over.

Lastly, I am not using the Desktop at the same time.

Hi @mikemoriendi 

 

A video screen reording may show your steps and workflow details that I am not replicating.  I believe you are seeing an issue, and may feel anyone could easily reproduce it, but again I cannot so far.  I understand if you prefer not to share a recording that includeds your personal images.

 

Regarding LR desktop app, is this the platform where you import images?  And is this Lightroom or Lightroom Classic that you use.

 

It would be most helpful to generate that as soon as you next reproduce the issue occur.  Also, it could help if you share the image with us putting that image into its own album, and sharing a link with me privately by clicking on my ueser name here to send me a direct message.  We look at the data, not the image itself, to protect your privacy.

Yeah, I don't want to share my personal images past what I provided already.

 

I only use Lightroom, not the Classic, but uploads are sometimes through desktop and sometimes using an SD card reader on my iPad. The images that have been affected are from both types of uploads.
