Question

Enhance function crashes iMac (reboots)

What:  When using the “Enhance…” feature, the computer SOMETIMES crashes and reboots.

Issue:  The images that crash “Enhance…” have very flat areas (background sky).  They will reliably crash the computer when the enhance function is selected.  The enhance takes a significant amount of time (longer than it usually does by at least 3x, then the computer reboots.   If the same image has noise added to the sky background, the enhance function runs as expected.

Anecdotal:  I did not have crashes prior to upgrading to Ventura 13.4, but I might not have enhanced any images with a very low noise background.

Details:

     Lightroom CC 6.3.1

     iMac 2019 27-inch Retina 5K

          macOS Ventura 13.4

          3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9

Radeon Pro Vega 48 8 GB

I have exactly the same issue with Macbook Pro M1 running Ventura 13.4.

No Adobe crash dialogue appears. I have tried disabling GPU acceleration, same crash occurs but this time with an Adobe Crash dialogue appearing.

Just tried again with GPU disabled in order to send a crash report, this time no reporting option appeared unfortunately.

We’ve reviewed the email address you use with this forum and find no crash reports in our system.

Did you see a crash dialog?

Do you use a different email address when filling out the crash report?

Was the crash dialog Adobe’s? Apple’s?

There was no crash dialog at all.

Screen goes black, and system starts up again.

That is likely a hardware issue or a system-level driver issue. I would recommend contacting Apple for assistance with reviewing any logging you have enabled.
