Getting Lightroom to "see" EHD in folders

Hi- I can't remember how to add an external hard drive to the photo files that lightroom can see in addition to the photos on my Mac hard drive. Julianne Kost did a video ages ago but I can't find it. I know its quite simple but I cant remember!! Please can someone help? Thanks
