iPhone Lightroom pictures not synching with Cloud

For some reason, my photos on my iPhone refuse to synch with the cloud. They are auto-added to Lightroom, but despite upgrade to the latest version, I cannot get it to synch. If I make an edit to the picture, it does synch. I have changed Wifi Networks twice, stopped/restarted the app, ...

When I look at the cloud status for any given picture that is not uploaded, I see "Local - Original HEIC" and a message with a circling icon stating "Auto-Importing from device photos - 66083 pending". There are definitely far fewer pictures pending synch. Somehow this stopped working a month ago. What could be the issue?

Are you using Lightroom on another surface, like Lightroom for Windows or Mac too?  I wonder if some import or sync process was started there and is incomplete.

The advice from 'selondon' is good, as any corrupt or incomplete uploads should be described in Sync Issues.

If you are certain that you have original images safely stored outside of Lightroom (ie., originals are still on your camera roll, or computer, or backup drive), then I wonder if reinstalling the app might help.  Reinstalling should clear our any cruft or corruption that may have occured.  If possible, please do a full iOS backup of your iPhone before deleting and re-installing the LR app, just as a safety net in case you need it later.

Another thing you can do before reinstalling the app is to copy any original images inside Lightroom's app cache to your computer, as an additional form of backup.  More info on that here: https://helpx.adobe.com/nz/lightroom-classic/kb/recover-lightroom-mobile-photos-itunes-file-sharing.html

While these backups are time-consuming, they are worth the peace of mind.  My hope is the re-install quickly gets you back on track.  Just re-import your originals from your camera roll.  Duplicates will be skipped, while missing original images will proceed to import.

I am not getting through this. Somehow going through all the steps led to the following:

  • Re-import of all my iOS pictures. Given that I keep a back-up on iCloud, this results in 64K+ pending import. It seems like that import only happens when the app is active so it takes forever.
  • Pictures are not synching with Adobe Cloud after import. Only if I physically click on a picture does it get synched.
  • No indication of any synch issues.

This is a pretty poor experience.

About to give up on Lightroom

"Why can't it keep synching in the background?"  The last time we let the app do this, the iOS platform limited background sync to 10 minutes, and so the sync might still be incomplete.  This lead to worse confusion for users so now the app is designed to require the LR app to be running.  If one is plugged into power, Lightroom will keep the device awake to sync as long as the app is open.

I'm sorry for the ongoing troubles.  I am not a heavy iCloud user, so I am somewhat guessing that your experience is going slow because LR has to request each original from iCloud, and then ingest it to see if the image is already known -- it's part of the app's effort to avoid duplicate imports, and I could imagine it being cumbersome when many images are involved.

I will share something I can't personally vouch for, but a friend tried.  And I will share with you in hopes it speeds your efforts.  In short, see if you can bulk download from iCloud to a computer to get all your files on a Mac or PC.  There are different suggestions on the internet for how to do this; I am randomly linking to one here

Now the part I can vouch for:  use Lightroom Web to import huge batches of photos.  Duplicates will be skipped.  How:
Once your images are on your computer, sign into your account at https://lightroom.adobe.com/ which is included with even a mobile-only Lightroom subscription.  Then drag and drop all your photos in one big batch to your account.  You can even drop them into a specific album if you like.  I have done this part of the process myself, importing as many as 30,000 images at a time.  This is RAM memory-intensive, so if you have a simpler machine, maybe try smaller batches of photos.

I hope something here helps bit.

It may be worth checking http://lightroom.adobe.com/ and checking if there is a Sync Issues Tab over on the left hand side.

If there is, trying delete the photo(s) and see if sync commences.
