Lightroom for iPad crashing on direct import from cf express a card

I have been having this issue as long as I have been using Lightroom for iPad, since early 2020.

previously it happened when importing from an Apple usb-c to SD Card reader. this was using uncompressed raws off a Sony A7R4 from a 256gb sdcard. The fuller the SD card the more likely it was to crash when importing. the only workaround i could find on ipad os 16 was to use files import instead of direct import, this would usually work, but would also sometimes crash.

Now I am using a prograde cfexpress a reader, reading A7R5 lossless compressed raws off a sony 320gb cfexpress a card, on the latest version of LR for ipad and up to date ipad os 17. I have ~3600 lossless compressed raws on my cf express a card, and the LR import keeps crashing during import when it gets to around the 3000th picture it is copying.

When i reopen LR, it gives me error code 19700902, forcing me to force quit the app and relaunch.

This is especially frustrating as it wastes a ton of time, as I then have to wait for all the pictures that did get copied before the crash to finish importing, so i can then delete them all, and start over. which for this many pictures can take close to an hour. This is on a 1tb ipad 12.9" ipad pro with M2.

I also tried using the import from files instead of direct import this time, doing batches of ~1000 pictures each, and this also failed in a strange manner. it copied all of the files, i can tell from how much space was used, but about 900 of the pictures were never imported, even though the space was being used, and I cannnot delete them as they were never imported.

Reading on this forum, there are many other users that have similar issues with importing to ipad lightroom, please fix this as it makes using this application incredibly frustrating. I just want to import my photos and get to work, but instead i have to spend hours waiting for imports to finish so i can delete them and start over.

Hi SoupRKnowva,

Sorry to know that you are having issues importing photos via Direct Import from your cfexpress card to iPad.

While we work to investigate and resolve this issue, I would like to get some additional details:

1. Which Lr version you have installed on your device ?

2. If you have tried importing similar format photos from your SD Card on the latest version of Lr, how did that behave? Did that crash too or skipped any photos?

3. With your cfexpress card, are you able to import the same set of photos to Photos app on the iPad ? If no, what issue does Photos app show - crash, close, incomplete import, etc.?

4. Could you please attach ascreenshot of any error messages that you see ?

Thanks for reaching out here with your issue. We will try to reproduce this issue and work on resolving it asap.

Regards

1. the newest version is installed, 9.0.1

2. I have not, i no longer shoot on SD cards, CF express cards are so much faster.

3. i have never tried importing the same raws into the photos app

4. the only error i see is that when i relaunch the app after the crash it says error code 19700902 and makes me force quit and relaunch

this happened again on my most recent import, i was trying to import roughly 3200 pics. all from an A7R5 in lossless compressed RAW off the cf express card, it got to just under 3k of them, like 2980, and crashed.
