Lightroom's Edit in Photoshop fails

Just recently (within the last week), when I try to Edit in Photoshop from Lightroom on my PC, it no longer opens the image in PS.  It stalls on the "Opening in Photoshop" blue status bar, and then I eventually get a "Edit in Photoshop Failed: File could not be opened in Photoshop" message.  Until last week, I had never had any issues with this.  I am using Windows 11 Pro.  In the last week, I upgraded to Lightroom 6.5 and to Photoshop 24.7.  I think the issue started after I upgraded Photoshop, but before I upgraded Lightroom (I did them on different days).  But I can't be sure.  I need help, please.

Generally this type of Edit in Photoshop issue is fixed by one of the following:

1. Reset Photoshop Preferences File

Reset Procedure:

  • Close PS.
  • Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting PS.
  • Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.
  • Close PS.
  • Retry from Lightroom

or

2. Clean Reinstall of Photoshop

  • Clean Install Procedure
  • Close Photoshop
  • Restart the computer
  • Use the Adobe Creative Cloud App to uninstall Photoshop
  • Restart the computer
  • Install Photoshop via the Creative Cloud App without launching any other programs.
  • Restart the computer
  • Launch Lightroom and attempt Edit in PS again

It is important when diagnosing a Lightroom-Photoshop interoperability issue to make sure any beta versions of Photoshop are not installed.

Deleted the Beta version.  No luck.
Reset PS Preferences. No luck.
Reinstalled PS. No luck.
Same result -  LR opens PS, but does not open the file and gives me the "Edit in Photoshop failed: File could not be opened in Photoshop" message.
Will try a clean reinstall of LR in a bit.
Any other suggestions?

After the clean reinstall of Lightroom, reset its preferences also because a Preference file will survive an uninstall/reinstall.

If you are still failing, some screenshots of the dialog might give a clue.

I haven't resinstalled LR yet. I discovered -- and this is much more critical to me -- that LR Classic also will not allow me to edit in Photoshop. The option in LR Classic for which version of PS to use is empty and not selectable. I'm attaching two screenshots -- the grayed-out preference in LR Classic, and the error message in Lightroom
