Lightroom Search functionality behavior changed

Since the latest Lightroom update, the search function no longer appears to search on the file name - this makes choosing selected photos from a large batch extremely slow and tedious.

In the past, a file name of  e.g. ABC_1234, could be searched for by simply typing 1234 in the search bar, and the correct image would be displayed.

This no longer happens, I have to manually scroll through and look for the file with that number.

I am a corporate portrait photographer, and have large photo batches to get through, Lightroom no longer works for me, as long as I cannot search my work based on file name (or a portion thereof).

Please urgently bring the functionality back.

It appears to be working on my end. Are you remembering to hit the [Enter/Return] after typing "1234"?

Hi Rikk, I am hitting return, yes. I'm wondering if I fully uninstall and then reinstall Lightroom this might help? I did think it was a rather strange problem to have, and am glad that it's working on your end. I'll keep troubleshooting on my end 🙂 thanks

I would preference reset before I would uninstall - reinstall:

This procedure works for both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Desktop.

If you are using Lightroom Desktop it can change the location of your local storage. Please review this setting after resetting preferences.

Reset Procedure:

1. Close Lightroom.

2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.

3. Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.

4. Close Lightroom.

5. Restart Lightroom.
