Local Storage: Support SMB drives on Windows

Currently the new "Local" storage option cannot show files from an SMB drive. I have terabytes of photos stored on a NAS and was really excited to finally be able to edit them in Lightroom CC but quickly realized that lack of support for SMB drives on Windows. On Mac, it works because the SMB drives shows as a normal connected hard drive. This seems like a pretty big oversight because a lot of photographer will probably also want to use their NAS and Lightroom together.

I am not having a problem seeing either of my NAS Drives from a Windows 10 machine. They show up in Local, can be managed as favorites, and the photos are editable.

Exactly how are you connecting your NAS to the file system?

I did a little bit more digging. I usually connect my NAS using the "network location" in the File Explorer. I use the IP to access it so something like this: "\\192.168.x.y\photo". Using this method, Lightroom won't show the files or the folders in the left side folder structure.

I decided to try connecting using the server name, so something like "\\MaisonBA\photo". This worked better as I can now see the photos if I select an exact folder. The folder still won't show in the left folder structure view which makes it hard to navigate from one folder to another and I always have to select the folder to view via the file system.

I atteched some screenshots to show what I am talking about.

Any network location that is mapped to a drive should become visible in the "Browse" section. Here is a link that can help you do the mapping: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/map-a-network-drive-in-windows-29ce55d1-34e3-a7e2-4801-1...
