Did you pause sync in Lightroom? Were the images synced to Lightroom Cloud?
There is cloud storage used in your account & there is still a good chance your images might still be here. Log on to Lightroom Web (https://lightroom.adobe.com) & check if the images are in the Lightroom Web.
I did not pause sync. Everything was synced to the cloud, suddenly one day all the photos i had uploaded from January till march's were missing. Missing out of folders I had put them in & were removed from the library as a whole
I can confirm that the cloud storage is, or at least has been, somewhat unreliable. I have also seen shots disapear, sometimes moved to trash, sometimes disappearing totally. I mainly use the cloud as a channel for transfering my shots from mobile devices to final archiving on a PC with LR Classic. I mitigate the problem by opening LRc fairly frequently to make sure I have an off-line copy of he cloud content.
