Which number version of Lightroom?

Are you using any dev presets during the import that might have cropping turned on?

Try updating the app to the latest version (8.1.1), then try again. I've just tested on my old iPhone8+ and when I select the 16x9 aspect ratio the image is added to LrM and displays in that 16x9 format. Of course, because the iPhone's native resolution is the larger 4x3, the "Original" aspect ratio is still available to select in the crop tool if I want it.

I'm not totally clear what you are telling me, could you perhaps post a couple of screenshots to clarify. Also, which camera app are you using, the iOS camera or the Lightroom camera, or something else.

When you shoot in raw, the image captured is always the full extent of the sensor, even though the user may only see a specific crop if that was chosen. However, in Lightroom, when you view the image in the grid or detail view you should see the cropped aspect ratio (16:9 in your case), but if you open the image into the crop tool you will see the full 4:3 aspect ratio with the current crop boundaries showing the 16:9 aspect ratio that you selected in camera. Because the image is Raw, so never physically changed, you are able to use the crop tool to revert to the full 4:3 ratio (thus getting back all the detail that you initially "cropped out" by using a smaller aspect ratio), or you can re-crop to any of the other aspect ratios. The import thing is that you still have access to the entire image covered by the full extent of the camera sensor.

However, if you shoot in Jpeg or Heic using the phone's camera, the crop selected will be "baked in" to the Jpeg/Heic and thus you would be unable to revert to the full sensor image,

I post some screenshots.
I use ios camera to take the raw photo on 16:9
like the first two screenshots which I see in iphone ‘s Photos ,but when the
photo is imported to LR ,the original crop becomes 4:3,like the last two screenshots.

I can see the issue, i.e. I would have expected the in-camera aspect ratio (16:9 in your case) to be automatically applied when you import into LrM. That's what should happen if you import an in-camera cropped image into LrClassic (though of course the full sensor aspect ratio is still available in the crop tool), so I would have expected the same in LrM. However, I can't test that as my phone camera doesn't allow different crop ratios to be selected, so you might have to wait for another user to test, or for Adobe to comment on this issue.

In the meantime you'll have to use the crop tool in LrM to get back to the 16:9 ratio that you thought you were using when you framed the image.

Thank u for your reply!I can use

the crop tool to get the photo to the 16:9 ratio, but it is not the same photo as what I shoot,LR automatically crop my photo to the 4:3 ratio and I crop the 4:3 photo to 16:9 again, this 16:9 photo is not like the original 16:9 photo, the photo can't be recovered.

That's not what your screenshots are showing. You keep saying that Lightroom "crops" your photo to the 4:3 ratio, but that is not the case. When you take the original image, after selecting the 16:9 ratio in camera, the raw file that is captured still contains the full sensor data, which is a 4:3 ratio. I expected that on import to Lightroom it would show you the 16:9 aspect ratio, but the full original 4:3 image would still be available if you open the crop tool. However, it appears that it instead shows the full 4:3 aspect ratio on import, which may be a bug. But do closely compare the screenshots that you supplied, the 4:3 image in Lightroom has the same top to bottom content as your 16:9 crop in the iPhone, but there is much more content in the width of the Lightroom image compared to your iPhone crop.....because you are seeing the original uncropped image.  Cropping to the maximum 16:9 size in Lightroom should then produce an image exactly the same as the image you originally saw in the iPhone.

If you don't use any presets at import try is to reset the preferences to the default settings.

Reset Procedure:

  • Close Lightroom.
  • Windows: Hold down [Alt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.
Mac: Hold down [Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.
  • Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.
  • Close Lightroom.
  • Restart Lightroom.

It's recommended to backup your preferences before you reset the preferences to the default settings:

Same issue... tried deleting the app and re-downloading and didn't work. Reached out to tech support, useless. Cancelled for now as I shoot most in 16:9...
