Question

Moving from LR6 to LR

Hello All, I have been using LR6 for many years and on the whole it still does the job but I know that the online/subscription version of LR offers more.  My question is regarding catalogues/folders that I have in LR6 and whether these would be accessible to me in the online/subscription version of LR?

Any advice very welcome,

Iain McIntyre

Are you clear that the two flavours of Lightroom: Lightroom (formerly Lightroom CC, online, Cloud-based) and Lightroom Classic (local catalog) are very different and have different user interfaces (UI) and workflows?

If you're looking to maintain your local catalog-based workflow and a familiar UI then you need Lightroom Classic.

If you're looking for an online, Cloud-based workflow (no local catalog, different workflow and UI) then you need Lightroom.

"My question is regarding catalogues/folders that I have in LR6 and whether these would be accessible to me in the online/subscription version of LR?"

NO! They will not.

The link given by @Gurdeep.Singh  is misleading as it refers to a "Migration" from Lightroom-CLASSIC (which you do not yet have!) to Cloud based Lightroom.

To preserve your folders on a local hard-drive, to preserve your folder structure in a "Lightroom" catalog, you need LIGHTROOM-CLASSIC.

Lightroom-Classic v12.4 is the 'latest' version of your "many years LR6".

For Lightroom-Classic you need a subscription to the Photography Plan.

When (if) you install Lightroom-Classic it will simply upgrade your LR6 catalog, and you carry on exactly as you did before in (old) LR6.

COMPARE LIGHTROOM & LIGHTROOM-CLASSIC FEATURES

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.
