My CR2 files are being uploaded as JPG

Community Beginner ,

Everytime I upload my CR2 files to Lightroom web they are being uploaded as JPG... I don't know how and why it's making such conversion but it's disturbing my editions and the quality of my work a lot. I already checked to see if it is a problem on my camera configurations but it's not... so any help will be highly appreciated!

Hello!

I found out what the issue was. When the files are uploaded directly from the photo app on MacBook somehow it changes from CR2 to JPG, I highly believe it is a Mac issue. What is needed to do is to save the files outside the photo app and they will be uploaded normally.

Thank you!

Hi @Ana Claudia Oliveira. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you figure this out, but I need more info.

Are you using Lightroom Classic or Lightroom desktop to import images?

Lightroom Classic uploads only the smart previews to Lightroom Web, whereas Lightroom desktop & mobile sync the full-size raw to the cloud for backup.

The file type can change depending on what Lightroom you've used to initially sync images. You can learn more about the sync ecosystem here: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/sync-faq.html

Thanks!
Sameer K

Hi, Sameer!

So, I upload from my camera connected to the desktop to Lightroom Web, it saves me more time than uploading on my Lightroom Classic, that's why I do it this way. Anyway, I've doing this for 3 years and I had never have a problem, but since I upgraded my accountto 1TB I'm facing this issue.

Thank you for your help & have a good day,

Ana

What makes you think the files are uploading as Jpegs? Perhaps post some screenshots which clearly show the problem that you are reporting?

Both of them I uploaded as I always do, but somehow the file changed...

Start with the fact that Lightroom cannot arbitrarily change the file type when uploading to the cloud, and with that in mind we have to figure out what might have happened. Working from the beginning, are those images still on the original camera card(s), and if so can you list the contents of the card using whatever file browser you use and post a screenshot here.

I never use Photos, so I can't be certain, but I believe there's an "Export Unmodified Original" option which you could use to get your CR2 files out of there. Personally, I wouldn't put them in there in the first place if the intention is to process them in Lightroom.
