Questions about migrating to LR CC

Hi all. 
I'm thinking about moving my entire catalog to CC so I don't have to worry about hard drives anymore.
I currently use LR classic because I make a lot of books.
Will I be able to do this if I migrate to CC?

Will the photos be viewable in LR classic?

i also read it wipes all your custom metadata during the migration process. 
this really puts me off.

With a Photography Plan subscription including both apps, originals stored in the cloud can optionally be downloaded into Lightroom Classic using the folder location nominated in preferences.
