"checking free space on disk"

Lightroom on my desktop is stuck on "checking free disk space" even though I have ample storage room. I also cannot close Lightroom by force quiting or exiting out. I have an update on my computer that cannot complete because Lightroom is open. I am not sure how to force quit Lightroom, or what my next step should be.

I have a similar problem with syncing a nd i cant force quit or update on my Mac either
