"DefaultScale" DNG property not interpreted correctly in iOS / iPadOS Lightroom apps

In the iOs and iPadOS versions of Lightroom, the "DefaultScale" property of DNG files is not read / interpreted.

If you use DefaultScale to desqueeze DNGs shot with an anamorphic lens, they are correctly displayed in Lightroom cloud web interface, the MacOS as well as the PC version of Lightroom.

However, if you open DNGs desqueezed through adjusting the DefaultScale property on the iPhone or iPad, the images appear "squeezed".

Both apps still seem to export the file correctly though, so it may only be the locally generated preview that is affected.

I do not have an Android device and could not test if the bug exists there or not.

Adjusting the DefaultScale properties in DNGs is currently the only way to desqueeze RAW/DNG files taken with anamorphic lenses.

Greetings,

If you login at https://lightroom.adobe.com and review one of these images does the image on Lightroom Web also appear distorted?

Hi Rikk,

thanks for your response. As I wrote in my original post, it looks fine in the web interface.

I just tried editing on the web, that also seems to work fine.

thanks for looking into it,

Josef.

Just checking out LR Mobile and I seem to be unable to resize images! In this case I am shooting with a Moment anamorphic lens (1.33x) and the lens needs to be "deesqueezed" to provide the super-wide aspect ratio (which requires a 1.33 times expansion on the X-axis).

I cannot do this with the 'Crop' tool as it chooses an aspect ratio only. I cannot desqueeze my images.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah, welcome to the club! Hard to believe, but no, the new and improved Lightroom does not allow you to resize / stretch images. You can use one of the million non-Lightroom apps that do that, but then you are stuck with JPEGs. If you want to work with your raw files, the only workaround is DNG conversion -> exiftool to change the DefaultScale parameter -> Lightroom (but not on your mobile, since those implementations of LR have a bug where they don't properly interpret the DefautlScale parameter).

This feature has been requested for years, so don't get your hopes up.

I'm in the same boat with my moment anamorphic lens shooting in RAW. Bumping this post with the hopes it gets resolved in the next update!

I found a work-around by using IOS app called Desqeeze which works really well. My workflow is to do the PP in LR and then as a final step, use Desqueeze to expand the anamorphic image.
