Question

"Edit in" is useless for Dxo Pureraw, as the file changes to .tiff.

I use LR and dxo Pureraw together. I first sharpen my photos in Pureraw and then edit them in LR. Unfortunately I can't use Pureraw within LR as when I right clik on the photo and select "edit in" Pureraw, the .nef format changes to .tiff which is useless for Pureraw as it only works with raw files. An option for raw format will be very helpful.

That is to be expected in LrD.

In Classic (not available in LrD):
File menu and choose Plug-ins – Extras > Instant process with DxO PureRAW?

Rikk. Thanks for your reply. You had quoted the original OP but I'll answer from what I see/have found.

Oddly Lr does not have the same menu options as does LrC (as I've used quite succesfully with DxO PureRAW for some time). I really don't use Lr on my MacBook Air as my "go to" for photography work if my other desktop setup is available (Mac Studio) but thought I would add DxO to Lr on my MacBook just to have that available for travel, etc.

As for the menu option you speak of, that exists on LrC but not in Lr (Desktop version 8.2 is what I am using). I've attached a screenshot showing that menu after DxO installation. The only way to even make a connection to DxO after one has properly installed the software (including plug-ins) is to add DxO via the File > Edit In and then "browse" to the application. Of course we all know that path does not work (creates a .tiff file which DxO doesn't recognize).

FYI - I have reached out to DxO for their feedback and assistance.

Correct: The plugin only works in Classic. Lightroom Desktop does not have plugin functionality—only third-party editor support. You will be limited to Tiff in Lightroom Desktop.

My post predated yours by a few minutes btw...

As Classic is part of your subscription, you may need to use it in these instances if the DNG is a requirement.

I don't think what you want to do is even possible, but maybe someone will correct me.

A RAW file cannot be modified.

So whatever software you should to edit in first, will have to render it as a TIFF or any other bitmap format.

If you want to start with DXO, I think you should go directly there, and render it to TIFF.

Then import them in Lr.

Actually it is (in LrC at least). DxO PureRAW has an Adobe plug-in that allows this to take place. I've used this feature in LrC for some time so yes, you can edit from Adobe into DxO and then back into Adobe and maintain a "RAW" format (note that DxO, as part of this edit process, creates a new DNG file that goes back to LrC.) This "feature" is supposed to also work with Lr (desktop) but seems there are some issues.

And yes you are correct that RAW files can't be modified. Simply put the DxO plug-in creates from with LrC a new DNG which you edit in PureRAW and then that file goes back into the LrC system (catalog). In the end you have the original RAW file from camera and a new DNG from DxO.

Having same issue. Can't determine how to make this work. Have used on separate computer (Mac Studio) using LrC (Lightroom Classic) without any issues for quite some time.
