"Lightroom ran into a problem with your local catalog and must either quit or rest"

New Here ,

I'm desperate, Lightroom (normal, not Classic) keeps crashing in my macbook air (macOS Tahoe) with the message:

"Lightroom ran into a problem with your local catalog and must either quit or restart."

I've tried deleting the Lightroom Library.lrlibrary file as some forums suggested, unistalled and reinstalled, installed an older version, and still the same error.

Any help would be mostly welcome

@Blesaster

Have you seen the Google Drive comments in this thread (if you even have Google Drive)

I thought some comments further down the thread relate to Mac OS also?

It was a long shot anyway.

You want to avoid having the Lightroom Library.lrlibrary file in your Pictures folder under Google Drive's control. I'm not familiar with their interface, but there must be a way in Google Drive to protect that file. Otherwise they may delete it in an attempt to free up local disk space.

Hi, thanks for reaching out, and we're sorry about the trouble!

Please check if Lightroom has the necessary permissions on your Mac by checking the steps here: https://adobe.ly/3Lqh5ng

Once done, restart the machine and check if it makes a difference.

Thanks,
Nikunj

done that with no change... Lightroom is unusable in my mac... it's a new Macbook air M4, not an old computer. Fortunately I mostly use Lightroom Classic but I'd like to have all programs running as I'm paying the fee for all the photography programs

I checked that, the permisions are all ok. I managed to get lightroom opened for a shorter while if I'm offline, but as soon as I get online I get the usual message and lightroom closes

@nikunj.m I do need Adobe's help here, I'm completely unable to use Lightroom on my mac, it works in the web version but not online, all the other programs Lightroom CC, PS work, but I keep getting this annoying window about my local catalog. I cannot be paying for a program that doesn't work, I don't want to look for alternatives, as Adobe's programs are the best... when they work... I've reinstalled it, unistalled, installed an older version, deleted the lrlibrary file... but I can only see Lightrooms page for a couple of seconds and then it shuts down...

you were right! sorry again.

Yes, once I deactivated Google Drive Lightroom works flawlessly... odd... now I can use it but there should be a better solution than activating and deactivating Drive each time...

Thanks

Partially good news then.... maybe reinstall and reset the prefs and see if that helps stability?

Yes, once I removed that folder from Google Drive backup folders the problem is solved... I'll stop using Google Drive and look for a better option to have a backup next to Time Machine.

thanks
